@Green_hopeful thank you - she had delirium after breaking her thigh bone during covid, the hospital let me in to deal with her. This time was a fall but no breaks luckily I have mentioned three or four times that she had a uti before Christmas could they check she didn't still have it. Unfortunately lovely staff but they are so busy with not easy patients. If this doesn't resolve she won't be able to live on her own and as her power of attorney that may be my difficult decisionLife shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin16

@Brambling its a really hard decision but often care homes can be a kindness. My husband’s aunt kept falling. We had her living with us for 7 months. Fortunately i was working from home so could care for her but we couldn’t leave her alone for any time at all. The hospital finally focused on the cause of her falls when she fell twice in hospital. She was getting very low blood pressure when she stood up.Since she has been in the care home she has recovered her cognitive function to a greater degree and they have managed to get on top of her recurrent UTIs. I tried so hard to get the gp surgery to treat the UTIs effectively but the system was against us. Anyway she is relatively happy in the care home. Are there any temporary facilities she could stay in to recover? We have a facility at Stamford Hospital which is like an old community hospital where people can recover. Its only for temporary stays but the care is more focused on the patient.17

There's a local authority funded rehabilitation care home not far from me that takes patients from hospital to get them fit for going home, it sounds like the same sort of place @Green_hopeful2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Don't know if this is the right thread but the Tim box for rent etc reminded me of the newspaper bricks makers for log burners. Had any body tried them. Do they work? Are they ok for log burners. My daughter is paying a fortune for wood whilst their house is being renovated and has only part central heating
We have tons of newspaper and I would be happy to make them for her. I think it might be an efficient way of redistributing! 🥰

Oh yes, I just said this Brambling on another thread. My MIL had delirium after being in hospital.Green_hopeful said:@Brambling I hope your friend is ok. We cared for my husband’s elderly aunt for a while and she had delirium after each fall. She also had UTIs. The dr told my husband he didn’t think she would make it after the second hip replacement because she was completely out of it. My son who is an anaesthetist said it’s really common for elderly patients to get delirium after challenges such as falls or operations because their brains are fragile. We started feeding her in hospital and she regained her mojo. She is in a care home but so much better than she was.
My husband is taking the donation bag today after I call up to see if the shop are accepting donations. He added a hoodie to the bag and he is giving a couple of items to clothes recycling.
I tried to call the window cleaner as my windows are terrible after we had the back of the house rendered and had no response, he might still be on Christmas holiday, I suppose.15 -

Green hopeful, that is a lovely fire place indeed. Unusual too. I prefer it to much fancier ones.
The thing we are collecting is an oak surround from a 1912 house. I think our house is 1910. I am not a stickler for restoring back to original but the fire surround in the dining room now is not my taste at all. There is a real fire with a door. Similar to a log burner. It looks fairly new so we will keep it for a while to see how we get on with it. There is a living flame gas fire in the sitting room. I have painted the surround which makes it more palatable to me. In the grand scheme of things I will have an electric log burner there. I already have it, bought from market place for £15. It is cast iron an weighs a ton.
Brambling my MIL was the same with infection after infection. She was tested all the time but they never found where the infection was. She needed almost constant antibiotics to keep it at bay. Hope your friend feels better soon.
My Mum was in a rehabilitation unit. They did wonders for her. It helped her stay at home much longer.
We have had a sprinkling of snow. Must be a slow news day it was on the news.
Whilst we are out Mr V is collecting some new to him speakers. On NYE a couple of drunks fell over and damaged his speakers. Sadly he says he will be keeping them.
I will see if my phone is up to adding a picture. It is carried away with itself since an update. Yesterday it changed the back ground to black of it's own accord.:20 -
We currently have a large fire surround in the shed. That weighs a ton, we carried it home through the country lanes near our home. That was fun.✒️ Declutter 2025 🏅👗 Fashion on the Ration 2025 61/66 coupons (5 coupons silver boots)✒️Declutter 2024 🏅🏅🏅(DSis 🏅🏅)

Just a wee pop in to say - happy decluttering in 2026! I'm not actively doing any though love to follow everyone else at their labours and see the results.25

So, full of energy I restarted my decluttering last year. I then got hit by the dreaded flu bug. Once i was recovering mum got taken into hospital and is now home but needs more support whilst she gets mobile again. This meant nothing really got done and the clutter started breeding again!
I’ve decided that on Monday that i’ll start properly. This is not to stay I’ll be doing nothing until then as want to do the excess washing up, veg blanching and get the xmas decorations away.
I want to develop routines/habits this year so the plan is not to start with a massive campaign but to build it up. I also need to get my house cleaning, finances and exercise regime sorted so will be adding this to my overall plan.
Plan for week beginning 5 Jan:-
1. offload unwanted sweets/xmas chocs (sister takes them to work and leaves in brew room!)
2. sort glasses and mugs in cupboard
3.clean living room window (will take a while as not been touched in a long time🤢)
4. print off the 1p saving challenge and fill in with what’s already in tub. I don’t put money in daily just when i have spare change.
5. sort mums attendance allowance out. She already gets basic but been advised to get higher one. (this is helping to declutter my todo list)
6. remove 10 random clutter items daily from round the house. Or 70 in total across the week.
7. go through spices/sauce mix tub and get rid of stuff out of date or don’t use
Anything extra will be a bonus.
Don’t put it down - put it away!
