Me too. Once a month on 1st of next monthSuffolk_lass said:
That is fine (me too!) I always report the previous month, once complete, of my scrapings and interest/dividends or they are not complete.DiscountDuck said:I’m not going to be able to report in until the end of the month. Hope that’s ok.
I think those that account for their savings though regular savers and contributions when paid can report earlier, but we are happy for all sorts here, (including those who trickle in updates through the month) - it all keeps the conversation and support for one another going in the thread2 -
Hello im no 26 logging January
Vanguard S+S isa - £550
Vanguard SIPP - £200
T212 Invest account (emergency fund) - £1000
Dodl LISA - £333
YBS - £166
Principality - £150
Total January 2026 - £2449Nurse striving for financial freedom3 -
I think everyone has their own way of saving and recording total amount saved.
Mine is usually a round number as I do a budget on the last day of each month when our income is finalised and set aside a savings figure which is then spread over regular savers and our instant access e saver account. That is usually declared at the beginning of the month.
There is usually a slush fund in our current account and sometimes at the end of the month I send further amounts over to savings but sometimes I put them into savings spaces attached to our current account for things like Christmas, Holidays, House or Car so I do not count that as savings. As Starling no longer pay interest on spaces I sometimes move that into a savings account attached to the current account but as it will be spent over the year I do not count that as savings either.
It does not matter really how or when people record their savings as @Suffolk_lass says.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. Thanks you lovely lot. This made me feel a lot less worried about not updating earlier. So far I’ve saved £1011.00 (I know it’s an odd number but every pound adds up, right?!). I’m number 29.I might have a smidge more at the end of the month but it won’t be much, if anything at all, because January is LONG!“Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming” 🐠https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6098084/discount-duck-s-quest-for-mortgage-freedom#latest1

#17 t2rry logging an additional £475 to my January savings please
This is £325 from roundups and another £150 from the month's underspends
That makes £3,225 for January, which is always our best month but this one seems particularly extraordinary to the point where I'm not entirely sure how we've done that!
Our payday has been brought forward, which is why this end of month update has come so soon, and I'll be back soon for February to kick off!

That is a great result. January is normally a bad month for us as we tend to book our annual holidays then.t2rry said:#17 t2rry logging an additional £475 to my January savings please
