Evening ladies.
Yesterday was a blast! Finished the day with some not so great news, a work decision that we had made last week was overturned and has thrown a cat amongst the pigeons. I get why it was done but I will now have to manage the fall out in the New Year which I could have done without. So I treated DH and I to a takeaway Fish and Chip tea to cheer myself up then worked it off by getting the decorating stuff back out. I did a coat on the coving then another coat on the walls and by the time I had packed up and cleared away it was 11pm and time for bed. That's the new room finished painting apart from the windowsill and the old fireplace which needs a sanding down first.
This morning exercises done, and call made to Laithw8s so the order that I couldnt get through online last night due to using vouchers was sorted. Love snagging a great deal. I tend to do this a couple of times a year and manage to get double discounts so bottles in the £12 - £20 range come in about £7. Some will be gifts and some will stock up the wine 'cellar' until the next round in the summer. Shopping list written and nipped into town. DD decided she was coming which was somewhat restrictive as I wanted to get a couple of bits for her that will have to wait until Monday now. Went to see if I could find a carpet in the small independent shop and they can fit the first week of January. Later than I had hoped but I still had a radiator and skirting to be put in before the carpet. Builder chased for when this can be done and hopefully it will be next week. In the mean time he had chased me for an overdue invoice which I received err yesterday at 6am despite it being dated 12th. He will have to wait now as he knows I have a pot of cash I was going to use and he was going to invoice for the balance and he didnt, I got the full invoice, so now he will have to wait for me to go to the bank on Monday to pay the cash in.
DD and I spent longer than I had wanted to in town but it was nice to spend time with her without arguing so was a positive in the end.
Cooked DH and I a Mac n Cheese for tea, which was delicious with 'some remnant of salad that needed eating up. The DW has been put on and I have washed up the bits that wouldn't fit.
This evening will be shuffling funds around to ensure everyone gets paid and that I have cash for the little bits being done next week. I got paid from the day job yesterday so I need to keep that separate from all the other bits I am moving round as I try not to touch it until 1st of the month to keep the budget straight so that's my challenge this evening.
Hope you are all ok and getting what you need done in the lead up to Christmas xx

- Got up a little later than planned but managed to fit in a lake swim before stopping off to decorate the church for tomorrow's carol service.
- 1 load through wm (Mr N)
- Wrapped a couple of presents.
- I'd got up in the night as I couldn't sleep, so started making the Xmas pudding. Noticed that the ceramic hob (we have a 2-ring separate from the main cooker) was cracked; I remember dropping a pan on it yesterday but not in the place it was cracked. Ran my finger over it to determine that it was a crack. Realised, chopping cherries later, that I'd not washed my hands since so spent the rest of the night worrying that I might have got a glass splinter in the mix so felt I had to bin it and start again. Mr N kindly weighed out the fruit again. Mixed, put in bowl, tied it up to steam......to find that the pressure cooker I usually cook Xmas puds in was not compatible with the induction cooker (which was clearly purchased since last Xmas). Tried it on cracked ceramic hob - didn't work. Ended up digging out an old large pan which unexpectedly was induction-friendly so steamed the thing for ages (it wouldn't fit in the slow cooker). Hopefully it will be ok. Looked online for new 2-ring hob.
- had video chat with Mr N's old travelling friend (from the 70s) in NZ.
I'm sure I did more pottering-about type tasks but can't remember what.Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.
It's tough getting rid of the past but it does free up space for the future.10 -
Morning all xx
Yesterday was topsy-turvy as I was going out out in the evening - which I never do - so the Saturdailies were done, but in a different order to my usual routine. 🙃. As well as the Saturdailies I delivered Christmas cards to my neighbours here and at my old address ending up at Pops' for a coffee. While I was there DB arrived, then my niece, her husband, and my 8 year old great niece. It felt like Christmas having so much of the family together - which rarely happens.
Back home I decided to wrap a few more presents. Serendipity. DS and DDil 'popped' - did I have presents for DDil's parents as they were going over there today? Yes I do. And they're wrapped. Phew. So they left with the in laws presents and card.
I showered and dressed in my new sequinned top* - with trousers of course, and was picked up at 7. Lovely evening having a meal with the Macmillan Nurses Team - listening to a Lady Gaga Tribute act. But the evening took a downward turn as we were getting ready to leave. T had been fanning herself but we all thought she was having a 'moment' being at that age. She suddenly lost all her colour and fainted/ collapsed. Long story short: an ambulance was called and paramedics checked her over before we made a belated exit to the pub. T came home with us as her BP was coming back up and she just wanted to go home. All very sobering - I was too wired to sleep and Joey gave me a telling off for keeping him up past his bedtime. Ooops. He really did give me a mouthful of chirps before huffily going to roost. So cute watching a budgie throw a tantrum. But I did apologise to him. Profusely.
Today. I'm awake early. Still wired. I'll pay for that at some point but heyho. I've completed Strands with no hints, completed Wordle in four, completed Connections with no lives lost, and I'm going to get up and have a brew. Plan is to do the Sundailies plus visit H for coffee this morning, and wrap more presents this afternoon.
* I've never worn sequins before. Long sleeved too. My arms kept getting attached to my torso - it's a thing with sequins apparently. That'll be why everyone else in sequins had short sleeves!!! Live and learn.

Morning all
Round I was out last night too with a group of friends who go out a lot more than me, and I got a lift so no excuse not to drink, which led me to the fatal mistake of getting into rounds. I did sit out a couple but still had a bit more than I should have. Hope T is OK, your sequin comment made me chuckle.
This morning we are driving to the big city to collect DS2, he is home for two weeks and I can't wait! I am fairly organised for the holidays, there is laundry over the airer and some dust accumulating around the decorations in the LR but I intend to keep chipping away at that.
Later on it's a candlelit carol service in the church around the corner from DS1, we went last year and it was lovely so hoping to do that, and I need to call at my parents to drop off presents that I have bought them to give to other people. Busy day!
Hope it's a good Sunday everyone, and Kaz hope things are improving with your Dad xx

Afternoon all,
Round, I hope you have unattached your arms from your body. Mighty inconvenient otherwise 🤣.
It’s been a morning of This and That, and limited achievements. Wm x 1 run, a few decorations sorted, an easy, golden Christmas pud made. I’d like to think there was something else but there may not have been. I intended to take a walk to the allotment where I have a huge rosemary bush, to pick some stems for decorating along with the holly and ivy that I picked yesterday, but the weather this morning did not oblige. I may make a dash for it later if I cba to get changed into gardening gear.Everyone else is so busy, I hope you get some time to stop and recharge. Especially Narc0 x7 -
Good advice Fayolle. I'm taking time to recharge in between chores and visits. I don't want to run out of steam / spoons - especially after my unexpectedly late (for me) night last night. The problem is every time I cross something off my list I think of something else to add. Crossed off visit to H and buy F@nta for DDil to drink on Christmas Day, added buy R€nnies and fill up with diesel.
I messaged T this morning and she says she's fine today. I'm joining the team for breakfast butties on Tuesday so I'll catch up with her then.
Right. I'm going to wrap some more presents 🎁

All wrapping done. Including birthday presents for DS's birthday on 30th. And breathe. That's a job well done. Takes the pressure off.
Presents are currently in appropriate piles on my bed. Waiting to be bagged up ready for delivery.
Everything else (rubbish, scissors, sticky tape, etc) has been put away.

A day of running round catching up on bits and pieces and then a couple of food shops to stock up for everything other than the big day.
Have sorted the under stairs cupboard to add the cases of pop bought. The fridge has been cleaned out and all the new stuff has been put away.
The receipts have been recorded and I have gone through all the receipts for this month to see if I can find the £30 cash that I am missing since last week. It is so frustrating as I always get receipts and record every transaction. The only thing I didn't check was when I took money out of the cashpoint as I didn't want to count it in the street. I've got to go to the bank tomorrow so will ask them if its possible that I didn't get the full amount, I don't know where else it could be.
I'm now off to cook a roast beef dinner with loads of the reduced or cheap veg I sourced today, empty the dishwasher and then do some wiping surfaces.Mortgage, paid off!7 -
I love your snowman and your friend's flower arrangement Narco. It's a good thing the NHS is fast-tracking your dad Kazmeister. I know it's worrying but he'll get the result on the day of the colonoscopy and most of them turn out to be nothing sinister.Back from our brief visit to St Malo, which was really lovely. Everywhere we went people were charming, helpful and polite and there was zero seasonal plastic tat anywhere. We only visited the northern half of the walled part of the town, a place I used to go to fairly regularly on the Churchill and Miller but I only remember going ashore at night, although there is one photograph of me with the Assistant Cook John and another watch leader whose name escapes me which was very definitely taken during the day. (It was about 40 years ago.) Despite it being a place that earns a lot of its income from tourism with some extremely expensive beautiful shops we didn't feel mugged by any business. We found the one and only supermarket in the old town which fortunately sells wine boxes and a really wonderful restaurant in the cathedral square which, by rights, should have been a tourist trap but absolutely wasn't, and couldn't have been bettered. It's a route Brittany Ferries doens't do regularly or very often, so we grabbed the chance to do it and I'm really glad we did.Wren had her stitches out on Saturday morning after we got back and the vet's very pleased with the way the two sites are healing. Histology says one is nothing to worry about, the other had cells that were dividing rapidly, so we'll need to keep a beady eye on her undercarriage.I've been a bit hors de combat since we got back, with this wretched cold laying me out a bit. It's a lot more than a cold - I can get over them start to finish in five days but this one has been hanging around for a week and my voice has gone very, very strange indeed. I'm dosing myself up and getting early nights, but housework isn't high on my list of priorities right now; I need all my energy to just get better. And at some point I still need to write Christmas cards.Better is good enough.Note to self: Motivation follows Action, not the other way around.5
