Happy New Year everyone. 🎉🎉🎉Today as i settle down to New Years music courtesy of Sky Arts (and wondering how they play in the cold!) I reflect more on hopes for 2026. I wonder how many of us save things for that 'special occasion'. This poem helps me reset my priorities (and led me to open a bottle of Jura, gifted a few years back, and opened to bring in the New Year).IF I HAD MY LIFE TO LIVE OVER... by Erma Bombeck
I would have talked less and listened more.
I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the carpet was stained and the sofa faded.
I would have eaten the popcorn in the 'good' living room and worried much less about the dirt when someone wanted to light a fire in the fireplace.
I would have taken the time to listen to my grandfather ramble about his youth.
I would never have insisted the car windows be rolled up on a summer day because my hair had just been teased and sprayed.
I would have burned the pink candle sculpted like a rose before it melted in storage.
I would have sat on the lawn with my children and not worried about grass stains.
I would have cried and laughed less when reading - and more while watching life.
I would have shared more of the responsibility carried by my husband.
I would have gone to bed when I was sick instead of pretending the earth would go into a holding pattern if I weren't there for the day.
I would never have bought anything just because it was practical, wouldn't show soil or was guaranteed to last a lifetime.
Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I'd have cherished every moment and realized that the wonderment growing inside me was the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle.
When my kids kissed me impetuously, I would never have said, "Later. Now go get washed up for dinner."
There would have been more "I love yous"… more "I'm sorrys"... but mostly, given another shot at life, I would seize every minute...look at it and really see it... live it...and never give it back.

Hello Hello!
It's so wonderful to see so many rejoiners and new faces here.
Most of my goals this year are the same as 2025 but that's ok as this is what I enjoy doing...
1. Watch 26 movies I've never seen before
2. Complete 26 different crafts
3. Take part in 26 different physical activities
4. 26 selfcare experiences to look and feel better
5. Be able to run for 26 minutes
6. Post 2026 photos to Instagram - I have an account with no followers and like to post my silly little photos here like what I had for dinner or a pretty flower. The kind of thing I don't want to bore other people with but I want to keep as a memory or something nice to look at when things aren't going great.
7. Buy 26 gift cards for Christmas spending - I completed this in 2025 and it made Christmas shopping far less stressful
8. Watch 26 documentaries
9. Tick 26 things off my master to do list
10. Lose 26lbs
11. Try 26 new recipes
12. Listen to 26 audiobooks
13. 26 days of 26k steps
14. Read 26 books
15. Complete Parkrun 26 times
16. Save £2026
17. Walk 2026 miles
18. Create 26 (positive!) habits - To tick this one off I will need to do a habit 26 times in a month
19. Complete 26 walks from the book 'Lanarkshire Walks'
20. Make 26 donations - charity shop, food bank etc
21. Try 26 new (to me) restaurants / cafes
22. Tick 26 things off my bucket list - I have some really achievable things on there like 'read a book in a day'
23. Save 26 of each coin / note (£1 to £20)
24. Complete 26 garden projects
25. Watch 26 tv series with more than 26 episodes
26. Send 26 cards / gifts to others - not including birthdays or Christmas5 -

DundeeDoll, what are your alphabets?
How about an alphabet of You for Y? Could be an alphabet of things you do for you5 -
Sorry all, it's been manic what with family staying over the festive! I'm still procrastinating over my final list, but as @thechubbyunicorn said it's fab to see so many familiar names and new ones - So if you're old or new, a lurker or poster it's fab that you're here.
@dundeedoll What was your "Just one thing" from last years challenge?
@thechubbyunicorn I love the insta idea, although I can't be the only one thinking oh that actually sounds interesting and real as opposed to the curated things people tend to post and actually that would be great to seeYou laugh because I'm different - I laugh because you're all the same5 -
