Morning all,
A band of torrential rain has just moved through so it is now resembling daylight finally.
2 loads through the wm, to be draped indoors. HHI x 2 to be tackled at some point today. Other plans include some sewing (Christmas present, so justifiable!), maybe some light dusting. Maybe not. Although I can write my name on the piano, so I probably should dust it.All the Christmas cards to be posted were written last night. That also involved having to make an 80th birthday card to go with the Christmas card to France, as at £3+ for a stamp to Europe, I wasn’t sending 2 envelopes. All cards now posted, just the non-posting ones to be written.
Wendywitch, I use a scoop of citric acid for the kettle. Works like a dream. À la Nancy Birtwhistle. Have you tried standing pilates for exercise -discovering that has been a game changer for me? Sorry if the suggestion is rubbish.
Blackcats - you are motoring!
Have a good Saturday all. Keep dry x7 -
MMM, FreePrints do a photo book.
Morning all.
A slow start to Saturday for me too. I've lounged in the bath and got thoroughly wet walking Poppet. Dailies are done and house hoovered of a fashion. DH did a big shop on his way home from paid stuff.
Will probably have an early lunch before Village event.Spend less now, work less later.8 -
Hiya,
I agree with Freeprints for a photo book.
I've done 2 x WM both loads now on the airer,
Wiped and de-cat-haired the sofas,
S/S the bathroom and cleaned all the upstairs doors.
Now having a coffee and updating my diary while the kettle hopefully descales. I'm using vinegar this time, I don't have any citric acid to try.
After coffee I shall start again

Another OT post from me, Sadly my FiL passed away yesterday, we were expecting it but it still knocked everyone for six. He had been in a home for 3 years, well looked after but not much quality of life, didn't want to leave his room or join in with the other residents - he has been saying he was ready to go even before he went into care.
Cheers to J🥂, you'll be missed"I started out with nothing
And still got most of it left"

(((Hugs))) Eltee.wendywitch said:I have some black mould on the rubber seal round my hallway window. I've tried white vinegar and I've tried a spray for black mould but nothing have happened. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thank you in advanceThe only things I've found that really work are either soaking some kitchen towels in bleach and leaving them on the mouldy area for 10 - 15 minutes and then removing and rinsing the area, or D3tt0l M0u1d and M!1d3w R3m0v3r which does the same thing but is marginally less fiddly.Flying today consisted of wrapping all the Christmas presents I've bought so far, except the one I've hidden and can't find (oops) but that one's for Belovéd so it doesn't matter yet, particularly as it's his birthday on Twelfth night so what he doesn't get or open for Christmas he gets for his birthday. I'm chuffed that I've wrapped and posted the Christmas presents with their card and the birthday day present and birthday card for the couple in Scotland before the December madness starts. It took all day but it was necessary because my office / Room of Doom was so cluttered with wrapping paper, packaging and boxes I couldn't concentrate on anything any more.Tomorrow I need to do a quick freezer shuffle and then get back to the costumes I'm making. I bought a few metres of bias binding in the right colours today for the neck and armholes so that'll make things a lot easier. I think he's bought upholstery fabric because it's very thick and heavy so hemming it would have been all but impossible, and facings would have been a nightmare.Since I bought the new dy$0n in the flash sale which lives in the RoD I've found keeping on top of the vacuuming much easier. I loathe the man but the products are excellent.Thinking about my project for the new year to continue the journey to get this place in order I've decided that 2026 is Use It Up Year. I've got mountains of stuff that's useful and yet I find myself shopping and adding to the stash, so I want to continue to tackle my hoarding tendencies by resissting the urge to buy stuff. I spent time calculating a Sinking Fund this week and looking at my budget, and frankly I need to get a grip on not spending frivolously/unecessarily so it's all very MSE.And huge congratuations to Narco and Fayolle on your Recipe Collection Sorting Project. I've failed miserably so far but that's because I've been focussed on other things. I will also commit to doing it but more than likely not until January/February the way things are going here.Better is good enough.Note to self: Motivation follows Action, not the other way around.4 -
Well I survived the shopping trip and found an easy parking space, it was lovely to spend time with DS. Then I met up with some volunteers that I work with, had a very late night and some wine. Today our new fridge freezer arrived so we took the old one to the recycling place and called at the supermarket. New freezer sorted and some general tidying up and laundry done. Flagging now.
DS1 has suggested that we all go away for the New Year, and to celebrate DS2s 25th birthday on 2nd January. He has found a holiday let for £550 for 5 of us for 4 nights so splitting it between us it would be affordable. DH doesn't seem keen but I want to go. We will see.
I might take my book and go for a soak in the bath. It's pouring down outside I can hear it pattering against the windows.6 -
@eltee2 - Even when a death is expected, it is still hard on everyone else. Sending you hugs from America.6

MMM I always find CEWE the best for photobooks. Oops was just posting that when I see you have already done one!
Eltee condolences.
No flying today as I went to London to meet a friend for lunch and a dance show. Great day until I got home - via a different train as it was earlier - to find the station I got off at didn't have a machine for contactless payment. The guard let me through so hopefully I've avoided a fine, it will just charge me full rate which would be right anyway.Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.
It's tough getting rid of the past but it does free up space for the future.7 -

Morning all,
Hugs, Eltee, it’s rarely easy even when expected x
As HB kindly credited me with finishing my recipe sort out, I thought that I had better do the final 10%. A lot of recipes have been thrown away, every plastic pocket that I could lay my hand on (for some reason best known to her, my mum had tons of them, so I have decluttered those in this process too, win win) has been used, recipes are neatly filed by category which has already made it easier as I have found the recipe today that I wanted. I confess to still having a pile of W@itrose recipe cards that I don’t know how to store…. An old index card holder has been emptied and now repurposed with family history cards (my mum’s again, stored in a chocolate box). Family history record sorting is a project for another month year.
Wm x1 has run - the last of the throws / blankets that have been cluttering up the spare room, waiting for a wash. I have finished off the socks that I was knitting for DD for Xmas, and yesterday finished the bag for my sister. The plan may well be coming together a bit. I really ought to clean downstairs, but with the plumber coming tomorrow and the builders coming on tuesday, I have convinced myself that cleaning would be a waste of time 🙄5
