Sounds like you have .doc items defaulting to open in Word (not unreasonably). You can change that but best not yet until you have decided that a replacement is suitable.
Open the Libreoffice WP, Writer, then open your document using the File/Open menu option to find your word document.1 -
Thank you, much appreciated.flaneurs_lobster said:Sounds like you have .doc items defaulting to open in Word (not unreasonably). You can change that but best not yet until you have decided that a replacement is suitable.
Open the Libreoffice WP (is it called Writer?) then open your document using the File/Open menu option to find your word document.
If I send my Libre document back to them, will they be able to open and access it like they would a Word document? Is there a particular thing I need to save it under for it to most resemble a Word doc?0 -
Just be sure to save it as a .docx (best option) or .doc.PennysIntoPounds said:

You should use File/Save As and save as a .docx.PennysIntoPounds said:

As ever, make sure that your recipient can access the amended document satisfactorily. Unless you've used very funky Word-specific stuff in the formatting there should be no problems.0 -
Thanks both, there doesn't seem to be a straightforward .doc or .docx though
Word options are
Word 2010-365 Document
Word 2007
Word 2003 XML
Word 97-2003
Word 2007 VBA0 -
Take the first option, 2010-365.0

Thanks so much0

Just my opinion but if you are billing a client for services and sending them documents which are sort of Word compatible on a good day, but not if you want to have features such as change tracking enabled, then you're on thin ice.3

It depends a bit what sort of work you do. In any case, lots of people only do really simple stuff with word processing.Vitor said:Just my opinion but if you are billing a client for services and sending them documents which are sort of Word compatible on a good day, but not if you want to have features such as change tracking enabled, then you're on thin ice.
Talking of simple, nobody has mentioned the free online version of Word from Microsoft. I use that, and it’s fine for my personal use these days.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
I was going to say, it depends on the context.GDB2222 said:

If the OP is just using word to create an invoice or quote that just has their address at the top, a list of products/services and a total at the bottom, Libre is probably fine.
If they're providing complicated data (like a financial adviser), including tables and charts and such, then I wouldn't risk the incompatibility issues that might occur.
The Groupon license key saga is well known and definitely falls into the category of too good to be true.
A 'lifetime' license for office 2024 (Home) from Microsoft costs £119.99
https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/microsoft-365/p/office-home-2024/cfq7ttc0pqvj
A 'lifetime' license for office 2024 (Pro) from Groupon costs £11.99
https://www.groupon.co.uk/deals/office-2024-professional-plus-office-2024-standard-2
You may notice that Groupon is not selling the keys directly, and the keys are actually supplied by License Choice LLC.
While reselling keys with unknown origins has been done since the dawn of time, it has always been a risk.
As others have said, it could last forever, it could expire tomorrow. That's the chance you take for a 90% discount.
Microsoft does not permit the reselling of keys purchased through unauthorised channels, which can contain involve stolen keys and I can imagine Microsoft found it quite rich that you would contact them asking for their help.
Given the nature of this transaction, I wouldn't humour the idea of making a "chargeback from [your] bank" anymore than I'd consider asking the bank to make a chargeback because some drugs I bought online were duff. Nonetheless, I don't think you could do a chargeback in any case, as there is not a direct link between you and the supplier. Plus I imagine the price you paid was small so probably not worth the time (I can't see you responded to several people asking how much you paid).
Know what you don't2
