Just to correct what I posted previously, there is a Microsoft Office 2024 product sold as a "perpetual" licenced product (MS don't use the term "lifetime"), costs £119.

Their current full products are sold as a subscription service called 365, basic will cost you ~£80/year but does include Onedrive which the "perpetuals" don't.

EDIT : @QrizB said it already

Thank you for looking into it @flaneurs_lobster
I don't need Onedrive and I will cry if I have to go through renewing it every year 😁

Another +1 for LibraOffice.   Google Docs can work for many use cases too.   I use both (and have not use Word or Excel for many years).

Thank you all for your responses.

I will try the telephone option, and remember to add the expense of the package to my self assessment
How did it go with the telephone activation?

    1. Download and install Microsoft Office.
    2. Open any Office program to initiate the activation wizard.
    3. Opt for "I want to activate the software by telephone", not over the internet.
    4. Select your country/region.

Have downloaded Libre, is there a way for me to be able to copy and paste from a Word document? Or edit a client's Word document? Or do I need to buy Microsoft Office for that?
My client's Word document isn't giving an option to Copy (editing is enabled so it's not that that's the problem)

Can you not simply open the Word document in Libre?

I'm not getting that option, whether I right click or download. Maybe I automatically opened it in Word and now can't get the other options back

Not sure what Window's version you have but I remember there was a setting where you could assign a app/program to open certain files like say .doc to open with libre.

There are different file types so may not work for word as you have/had a paid product but I don't know if Microsoft Word/Office locks the document to the paid version.

    Hope that makes sense
