Received the O2 email this morning, got my PAC Code 35mins later. Moved to a hew supplier 25mins after that. Stupid thing is that my MVNO uses the O2 network.
We used to have one supplier .Vodafone for broadband and two mobiles, but moved one O2 and after the nationwide outage earlier this month, moved other mobile to EE.
So no longer all eggs in one basket. Risk of losing all three Internet and mobile at one time unlikely.
where you in contract with a handset?

I would like to know the following: if I cancel my current O2 sim deal that I have with O2 [NO CONTRACT] and go with say GiffGaff, which piggybacks onto O2, would I still be entitled to my Virgin Volt benefits?

I can get a GiffGaff 5GB deal[which is enough for me] for £8 a month and no contract, plus I would still get some roaming in the EU as well. Whereas my O2 SIM-only deal [NO CONTRACT] will be going up to £12.50 a month.

From what I have read on multiple sites (Including a comment from a Virgin Media member of staff) - If you are an existing Virgin Volt customer, you will not lose the boosted broadband speeds if you cancel the O2 SIM. Apparently the system cannot be adjusted.

For me, I am going to try. Virgin expires end of May 2026 and I am already paying £11.80pm for an O2 SIM and this change is just ludicrous. Worse case scenario is Virgin drop me from 1Gig internet to their 512Mbps package which is still absolutely plenty!
Hi, Many thanks for the reply.

    Sorry, I have another question.

I am in a very similar situation to yourself.

My wife has an O2 SIM-only pay-monthly deal [it's not a contract], for which she is currently paying £11.50 [which will be going up by £2.50 next April to £14] a month, but it gives us the Volt deals with Virgin.

So could I then cancel my wife's monthly deal in February when my current Virgin Volt deal ends and then go with Virgin for everything,i.e. the mega volt package which includes an O2 sim deal which would then save me the £11.50 my wife is paying for her current month-to-month?

If you think what I'm saying is correct, does my wife have to give ex amount of time to cancel her current month-to-month O2 SIM-only deal?

Sorry if that's a tad complicated, but I can't think of a better way to put my dilemma into words

  • ive been with O2/virgin for years and always found them reasonable but over last couple of years since they joined up its been chaotic ended up going to the ombudsman over an issue with the wifes phone. So NO more this rise is the last straw. I fail to see why they should be able to raise prices mid way through an agreement anyway. Thats another agrument. The reason for my posting is ive signed up for the MSE reccomended ID sim only deal on the MSE web page and its a nightmare trying to get my PAC number registered on the site. Nothing works it just keeps saying there is a problem. Changers beware.

I recently purchased a Samsung phone via their website and opted for the O2 2 year contract. The phone was provided by Samsung / Mobileshop Affordable Mobiles Limited.

The email from when I ordered with Samsung stated the device "is supplied by Mobileshop and not by O2. "

So if I cancel the O2 Airtime contract, will the device be "left alone" i.e. it won't get blocked??
Update: I've just noticed the thread about this stated "We've asked O2 how this will work if you took out a bundled contract through a third-party reseller and we'll update this story when we get an answer."

I assume I'll be in that group then?

Edit: I have paid an amount to Samsung for the device and no further payments are due, but it was a rather low amount - presumably they were reliant on their "referral" amount of me taking out an O2 Airtime agreement.

I am in the same boat. Just cancelled the contract, haven't even made my first payment. Have had text confirmation and MyO2 no longer shows the account.

Super cheap 25 Ultra! Gone from being very annoyed with the increase to being absolutely chuffed.
I called Samsung and they said the phone device would not be locked/blocked etc.
SO am about to cancel with O2 and take a different provider. I only paid £249 for the Flip7 plus £48 in O2 airtime so again, a very cheap phone!

I have a newish contract with a handset i purchased a couple of months ago though Samsung direct. Just requested a PAC code via text and it says the termination fee is £0! Very tempted to leave and purchase a sim only deal
This is interesting. I was told you have to call them to get a specific cancellation. I'll try it later

Did you call them or just text for a PAC? I am concerned if you don't tell them you're cancelling because of the price rise you'll get charged for the remainder of the contract.

I called O2 (202) and spoke to a person. I said I wanted to cancel due to the additional increase in charge, and asked for PAC. Got the text through with confirmation the "Early Termination Charge will be £0.00".
So basically just need to now find the new Provider and give them my PAC code.

Earlier in the thread someone mentioned banking safety in regards to receiving those one off codes.
I have found cheap sim only deals with Sky, as they use the o2 network, would they be safe?

I'm considering leaving amd going with another network, but I bought my handset through o2, so wouldn't this mean that my phone is locked to the o2 network?
