Then the 😱 was completely justified. And you're sure this is a legit company?

If you've got something to say about emailing ID to anyone, just say it.
0 -
It's unlawful for a company to request it (UK GDPR Article 5(1)(f)), and puts the customer in a vulnerable situation. No reputable company would do this, especially in financial services. It could put them in hot water with the FCA and they may be considered responsible for any resultant unauthorised disclosure because they instigated the insecure data transfer method.
So it's a hard pass from me on this company. They clearly have some issues, and who knows what else they've got wrong.

Are you referring specifically to the sending of ID via email, or providing them with ID in general?
0 -
Specifically asking customers to provide via an email attachment. This is insecure and vulnerable to interception and/or misdirection.
Reputable institutions have developed various secure methods of receiving such information, including via secure message (or direct upload) within your online account or app, secure web chat, use of services like Onfido, HooYo etc, or in a couple of cases an encrypted email portal.

Right, thank you.
The ID was supposed to be uploaded to the app, but it wasn't working properly. I called them, and they said I could reply to the email which they had just sent me, which read.
I'm contacting you in relation to your XTB application status. On behalf of the relevant department, I kindly ask you to provide a direct photo of your valid ID with all four corners visible for the verification purposes (no screenshots or scans are acceptable).
Please provide the above-mentioned document at your earliest convenience so that we can move forward with your registration.
The message doesn't specifically ask me to email my ID to them, just provide it. But since I couldn't upload it on the app, the guy on the phone said I could reply to the email with my ID attached.
I've taken note of what you've said regarding how they ARE allowed to ask for it. Thank you

A reminder that today is the last day to do this. I ended up buying 1 share in HSBC Sterling Liquidity Fund UCITS ETF Acc at £201.51. This MMF has a pretty narrow spread (I could sell now at the same price I bought for yesterday using the Request Quote option) but will keep till end of February to fulfill the T&Cs. The free share should hit my account by end of March.

Which account do you need to open to be able to invest the £200 and get the free share, Smart Portfolio and/or Share dealing?
Only interested in the free share and will sell the MMF and transfer the share to T212 and close account IG account after.

I opened the Share Dealing account. The smart portfolio sounds like some sort of managed investment account product.

Done and dusted in a few minutes and also bought the HSBC MMF for £201.55 and will hold until 2nd of March and hopefully be able to sell without loss and get the free share. I funded the account with £220 but don't seem to be able to withdraw my £18.45. At least I will get 3.75% interested on uninvested cash in the meantime.
There is also a refer a friend promotion but not sure if you can refer somebody and the person referred can participate in the free share promotion as well. Most likely not. Was thinking to refer the OH as the deal sounds better but cannot be somebody from the same household and you need to have an active account for 3 months before. It may or may not be of interest to somebody, especially when the promotion has expired, after today.
