Any feedback from previous similar promotions from ig?
Did the previous IG free shares promo, the terms were a little less arduous, open account, buy £50 worth of shares, leave them alone for 2 months, get free shares - I got £100 worth. Did do three £1-ish trades in that time, wasn't sure if was going to be liable for their quarterly custody charge for not doing at least 4 trades.

They've announced that this charge has been abolished in the last week.

Shares now all sold (up a tenner) - easy free money.

After a second bad Trustpilot review from me, Etoro replied before 8am on Friday 16th to apologise, and said the operations depart had been informed to apply my bonus. They then put "solved" on my open ticket from the 9th. Well here we are on Tuesday 20th and still waiting. All the positive reviews on Trustpilot must be fake, surely? Anyway, third negative review incoming!😂
If I left a review, it would be positive. I don't think I've ever bagged as much money in such a short time and for so little effort. Seems to be just a minority who have encountered issues, so you'd expect a lot of positive reviews as well as the negative ones. I'd imagine some even signed up to use the service for its intended purpose.
Moreover I would expect there to be a bias towards negative reviews as having a bad experience tends to motivate people to leave reviews more than a good or average experience would.

Moreover I can only speak from my own experience but a few years back I left a selection of reviews on different banks and building societies on TrustPilot, some positive, some negative. Most of the positive ones were removed on the grounds that they "looked like fake reviews" and I was asked for evidence of my experiences, they were often several months after I'd posted them. All of the negative ones survived though.

It's one of the reasons why I tend to take reviews on these sites with a pinch of salt.
Indeed. I only ever leave negative reviews, as a means to short-circuit bad customer service. Many companies will happily fob you off when you approach them directly, but leave a really bad review or call them out on social media and it tends to prompt much more urgency on their side. So it serves as a point of escalation, and that's the limit of its usefulness as far as I'm concerned.

Think I will wait for a better offer. I'm not a fan of the lottery type offers having only ever received the lowest band to date!

One of the lottery-type ones I did included the odds of getting each band (1% of people got the top band I think; 90 per cent of people got the lowest). Helped me understand how they work. Now if I go for an offer it's because I'm OK with getting the lowest amount

Lottery type ones are designed this way with the hopes of a big payout bringing in more clients but to be fair to IG the minimum in free shares of £50 isn't bad. Most of the other lottery type ones start with a minimum of around a tenner (T212, Freetrade). Also the link Bonus Shares Jan 26 - IG UK gives the probabilities in Table 2

All the providers doing these lottery-type free-share offers, at least that I can see display the probabilities in their T&Cs. See offers via this link UK Investing Offers - Free Shares & Welcome Bonuses. Clicking through to the provider websites it's usually quite straight forward to see the probabilities.

I did the IG sign up offer last year, it was 7.5% interest I think for 3 month. I closed the account after the 3 months. I did a 4 or 5 small trades and kept open positions to avoid the custody fee.

Would I be eligible for this new promotion?

Still no sign of my eToro funds (£2.5k paid in 12/1 and frozen)... despite negative TrustPilot review.  They did contact me and asked for MORE bank statements and another round of identity verification.  I'm sure I'll get my money back, it's just very tedious now and I may lose out on interest payments elsewhere.

In better news, I got £20 yesterday for opening a Revolut account and making one debit card payment,

PLUS I got a £100 Amazon gift card from Chase today for moving my main income payment to them for 2 months! 🎉

And, £35 TCB tracked for getting an M&S credit card.
  • I’ve just had my 3no Santander Accounts (Easy Access ISA, Limited Access Saver & Easy Access Saver) made payable and withdrawn to my CA this morning. Easy £75!

As always thank you to those who contribute to this thread. I have literally never made such easy money!
