The defendant must be present and may have to answer questions

You can likely appear as a lay representative,  or as a McKenzie friend, but you cannot deal with it yourself,  you are assisting her,  with permission from the judge  ( assuming that it actually gets to a hearing   )

Its an alleged overstay,  a possible breach of the parking contract,  although a grace period is a MINIMUM of 10 minutes, not an absolute figure

As its Smart Parking via DCB Legal,  it's extremely unlikely to get to a hearing,  more likely to be discontinued just before the hearing fee must be paid by the claimant

Can I represent her in court if it gets to that stage?
Come on, they'll discontinue. There will never be a hearing! We do this every day and have 700 examples to prove what happens in DCB Legal claim like this.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

You dont, she ( the defendant  ) logs into her government gateway account and navigates to MCOL,  then she uses the start defence box,  as explained in the first post in the defence template thread in announcements,  2nd from the top of this forum

I'm helping her. The defence pack password now seems to be incorrect. Could we have changed it when first logging in so they it's now different from the one on the claim form?

Unlikely,  it's usually human error,  misreading certain characters like

    1 L O I 0 S 5   etc

Please edit your thread title to something more suitable, more meaningful,  like

No. It'll be a mistake with a lower case l (ell) being misread as a capital I (eye) or similar.

Anyway she isn't ready to defend yet because I don't think you've found & copied the extra paragraph seen in all Smart Parking defences.

    You mean this?

'Note that the normal rule as to costs does not apply if a claimant in a case allocated to the small claims track serves a notice of discontinuance although it might be contended that costs should be awarded if a party has behaved unreasonably (r.27.14(2)(dg))'.
