Pre-authorisation check of your card at Sainsbury's, perhaps at their petrol stations?
Have you bought from Sainsbury's? Or made an online shop reservation with them?
Are you in physical possession of the card?1 -
Just wondering if anyone has anything ‘official’ on use of ApplePay and other phone payments. I caught the Voucher Sent terms which mentions ‘Contactless’ but that could be a physical card payment. Really want to avoid having to take a physical card to buy my bananas. I use my phone for everything!friolento said:
If ApplePay was excluded, it would say so in the offer terms.Clare43 said:Just double checking - I’ve used my card for a variety of things but when I look at the transactions some show as “ card payment to x “ some as “purchase - domestic “ and several as “ Apple Pay “. All the transactions are cleared. Does this matter ? Will they still all count for the 30 card payments needed to get the voucher ?By definition, ApplePay can only be a card payment.0 -
Just to add that I ran the problem through AI which said the following…
Apple Pay is acceptable for the Santander £100 Amazon offer because the VoucherSent terms define a qualifying transaction as “any card purchase,” which includes contactless, physical, or digital card payments. When you use Apple Pay, your Santander app records the transaction with the merchant name (e.g., Sainsbury’s, Aldi), the amount, the date, and links it to your debit card. This is functionally the same as a purchase made with the physical card. Even if the app shows “Apple Pay” as the transaction type instead of explicitly saying “Purchase – Domestic,” it still meets the requirement because it is a legitimate card purchase, not a transfer or direct debit. So, making individual Apple Pay payments at supermarkets or other qualifying retailers counts toward the 30-transaction target without any need for receipts. This method is convenient and low-risk, especially if you vary the amounts slightly and spread the transactions over several days or weeks.

... and the answer is ... 6 small carrots (very small but whole, no cheating)
@danny13579 I could only accept your first answer ... which was correct well done ... your prize? a small carrot which I'll have to buy next time I'm in Sainsbury's supermarket with my physical card @friolento

Toy could ask VoucherSent or Santander if it bothers you.CaptainFrugal said:

Ir never ceases to amaze me that Direct Debits are mentioned in the context of debit cards.CaptainFrugal said:Just to add that I ran the problem through AI which said the following…Apple Pay is acceptable for the Santander £100 Amazon offer because the VoucherSent terms define a qualifying transaction as “any card purchase,” which includes contactless, physical, or digital card payments. Sim cards? Were they online or in-store transactions?dealyboy said:I have 6 transactions at Sainsbury's (so far) that say 'CARD PAYMENT TO SAINSBURYS S/MKTS ON 05-11-2025' ... three for £0.03, two for £0.02 and one for £0.01 ... any guesses?
I've done 11 over 2 days, train fare, clothing at Boyes, 4 pints at Spoons yesterday, 4 Nana's at Aldi and my general shopping today. Would've been more (15) if the card hadn't taken 11 days (7 working) to get to me🙄.1 -
Hiya ... no ... in-store Sainsbury's carrots. danny13579 guessed correctly and his reward is pending as they say (about 4 comments up).@harz99 said:

... you're doing well
... my card took 5 working days and my pin another 5 days, I became impatient and looked up the pin in the newly installed Santander app.

The £100 Amazon voucher offer ended 2pm on 5th November.
Just before this time I clicked on the MSE link and filled in my details and went on to open a current account which is now showing in online banking.
I also received this email
Should I have received a second email to say they have seen that I’ve opened an account?
Or do I just wait for my debit card to turn up and start making 30 purchases?
