I think the NHS is, mostly, very good. But it is important to follow all the correspondence, and make sure that things get done. GPs are under strain, and they'll quickly scan an incoming letter without necessarily actioning the point about the OT.Boohoo said:

He was a Navy man for over 25 years.CapricornLass said:Was your FIL a union man, or a particular trade? Many of them have welfare schemes of some sort to help existing and ex-members. Its worth your while doing some investigating, and if so, applying to those welfare organisations for a grant. They probably wont pay for everything, but even small grant will help with the funding.
No union or trade.
1) check the if the Navy has a benevolent fund - the army does.2) Contact the local council for advice on grant funding. You do not need to be on benefits - it's disability support. They may or may not have grant money but even if not you should be able to get all the work done with exemption from VAT. But you need the appropriate advice and forms etc.,
My BIL called the council today and eventually got hold of someone and was told that he needs a referral from his GP for an OT to come out for grant app but will come out to see what he needs to help.
He spoke to his GP receptionist and was told that his hospital consultant needs to do a referral although in consultant letter CC to his GP it states his GP is to follow up with Occupational Therapist so who knows what is going on.
In your case, I'd get back to the GP's receptionist and explain what's in the letter. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Update.
After going from GP to local council and then Parkinson's consultant for about a month as they kept saying the other team should do an assessment and not them my partner got told to fill out an OT referral form on council website.
They called my FIL before Xmas and he got confused and put the phone down on them.
Partner contacted council and explained and she made a time for today as they were closed overnight Xmas
She spoke to a woman who then asked questions and spoke to FIL and then back to my partner who said a "falls" team would call and about an hour later they did
Asked more questions about the house and they said he could move downstairs. She told him no downstairs toilet so they will send a camode. They never asked about bathroom or how he cleans himself.
They are going to send a form for him to fill out about his finances and health and then when they get back they will send somebody out before next Xmas or 2027 as there is a minimum 9 months waiting time from when they get the form before doing anything there is a backlog.
She was not impressed to say the least.
Do you people think it's worth going to the Navy association or British Legion as he is ex- services or will that complicate things?
Also he has not been assessed by the Parkinson's nurse which the consultant said would be November. The GP said it's for the hospital to do and the consultant secretary said FIL gp's should contact a Parkinson's team to arrange this.0
