Aw rant away. Will you have FPA when they move out? I've supported students at college who live in supported housing and they were lucky they had someone guiding them there with a budget in most cases (not that all listened) and made it normal to get your calculator out in a shop and work out what was being spent. Does your youngest have a banking app on their phone so they can check before they spend? I do this every time I spend because I don't have an OD and am not ashamed to do so. Youngsters always seem to fear judgement of others sadly...I hope your youngest grows out of that.
I'm avoiding meadow hall till next year now 🥴🤣. It's too busy at normal times of the year for me nevermind the run up to Xmas.
Hope you get some pudding 🍮 😋

Hmmmm … I can understand why you are concerned if they can’t budget. Living independently will be very, very difficult for them if they can’t nail it … I suppose the good thing is you know the truth of where they are at with it before the ‘damage’ has got too serious.

Are there simple resources around anywhere that could help with them getting their head around it?

    As at 15.11.25:
    - When bought house £315,995 mortgage debt and end date at start = October 2039 - now £228,473
    - OPs to mortgage = £12,345 Estd. interest saved = £5,863 to date
Fixed rate 3.85% ends October 2030

Dfwb321 ideally I’d like the FPA to be removed but at the moment I can’t see this happening. They do have the banking app on their phone but they often forget to check it. Academically in relation to maths I would say they are at 1st year junior, maybe lower. For example yesterday I asked them to add 9+5=. They shouted random numbers at me literally in a panic. Once they calmed down they managed but this involved me using my fingers to count. Wouldn’t use calculator for some reason.
KK I’m looking into resources at the moment. It’s just an up hill battle.

In other news flippers are packed and just will need to wait in for them to be collected today 8am - 6pm. Really hope it’s early in the day, but knowing my luck. Friend that I arranged to see today is now coming to me for a cuppa.
The cheap own brand stock cubes have not been a hit, will try another brand but we might have to go back to our usual. Same for the porridge oats. Mr🐞 not impressed with the texture or the amount of milk needed to get the consistency he likes. However the marg is ok so will stick with that. Olio is a great app and we’ve not bought bread for Mr🐞 for about 2 weeks. The youngest however will only eat one type of bread ( not claggy, so doesn’t cause choking issues). We are enjoying the fry your poppadoms at home rather than the more expensive ready fried version. I just reuse the oil for something else. The youngest prefers the own brand popcorn. The own brand Greek yoghurt is ok but it’s more liquidy so prefer my usual brand. To make my usual brand cheaper ive added my own honey. The cheaper sunflower oil is a keeper, but I’m undecided about the olive oil. The rice is also ok, so will continue with that too.
Think I will try and get a bit more sleep 😴

I don't know if it helps, but I have found some poppadoms can be grilled rather than fried - I was surprised when my dad suggested it but it does work well enough - they come out drier but really good.
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!

They can also be microwaved without oil.
  • I also microwave for just under a minute, but wet with water first - this was advised in cooking instructions on one brand but not the brand I use now, but still works well

Sounds like I need to experiment abit more, although they puff up nicely and are really crisp they not good for us due to the oil. Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
