I have uploaded electronic statements with no problems on more than one occasion.Theleak250 said:
I recently did verification for a santander account. I printed statements from hsbc which santander accepted. I remember in the early days of online statements it used to state on them, referring to them being online statements and not official, or something to that effect. These days perhaps not the case.UKX69 said:
Yes, as you say, paper documents are used by banks and building societies to verify ID; yet institutions are pushing us to go paperless - catch 22!Theleak250 said:Im afraid the argument is void. There is no legal requirement to hold a driving licence unless you want to drive, there is no legal requirement to hold a gas bill in paper form. Yet these are used by banks to ensure identity. It’s a bit strange that they will not accept a drivers license, but you need to find another bank if you cannot complete their checks.0 -
Unlike legacy banks/financial companies, all the new ones are mostly using a third party ID verification systems.
They are able to automatically capture the text from the IDs such as expiry date which Revolut will keep in their own system hence it will become more common for people to get notifications that your ID needs reuploading closer to the expiry date and be asked to update it.
Only allowing Passport verification option is of course Revoluts choice, as others have said your options are limited.0 -
The OP has now said that Revolut has admitted to making a mistake citing a bug in their systems, and that the driving licence will be fine. Therefore Revolut has not chosen to exclude the driving licence for ID verification.Futuristic said:Unlike legacy banks/financial companies, all the new ones are mostly using a third party ID verification systems.

I am not aware of any financial institutions with such a policy. It is surprising though that so many here were just accepting that this is what they do and that the OP should just accept it.8 -
Past the point of surprising. For years the forum has been full of posters for whom the banks can do no wrong, and any issues are automatically the fault of the customer.RG2015 said:

I'm not surprised this happened with Revolut. I had an account with them for almost a year and they once blocked a payment to my Wise account as it was flagged as 'suspicious'. That was enough for me to send them packing 😂0

HTB asked me to Re-ID myself upon wanting to open a new fixed rate account as an existing customer in the middle of 2025.This was the first time I'd been asked to do this by a savings financial group as an existing customer with reasonably recent ID already in place. No my passport had not expired in the meantime. The only other time was when I was selling some unit trust bought decades ago when the Financial group quite resonably had no ID on me at all as this sort of thing did not exist at that time and wanted me to go through the modern requirements for ID verification before they would pay out.Rather amusingly though I have had one group reject my certificated passport copy as while the passport was in date, the date that the certification copy was signed/stamped etc by a solicitor (several year earlier) was deemed as being "too long ago".0

Well done. Always best to do what you think is right, and it seemed obvious to me that this policy was nonsense.Norfolk_guy said:Raised it as a complaint with Revolut and there has been a update !Apparently their is a bug in their system and it should offer the driving licence option for British account holders. They are working to resolve it and have apologised that their chat assistant (bot) gave me duff informationI came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.0 -

Just wanted to let people know Revolut haven't fixed this fully yet.
I've had my account with them for years and I verified my ID when I joined but suddenly they need me to re-verify.
The app allowed me to select from UK Driving Licence or Passport, and I was able to upload photos of my Driving Licence and then do a new selfie. After submitting that it went to a screen that says "We need another document" and now the only option left to select now is UK Passport.
My current passport is recently expired and wasn't accepted. I was going to renew it soon anyway so hopefully Revolut won't freeze my account before I can get that done. Do you think I should move all my money out of Revolut now just to be safe?1 -
Not really. The AML/KYC requirements are the same. Level of compliance different financial institutions achieve in practice is a different matter.Chief_of_Staffy said:
Could it be because Revolut are taking steps to becoming a real bank rather than... whatever they were in the first place? Although it must be said, the fact they can 'mistakenly' demand that only one form of ID is acceptable, then say, "Oops, we meant two," shows perhaps they cannot be trusted to do the most basic task.35har1old said:
I never been asked to renew ID by any financial institution it appears Revolut is going beyond what is requireddanny13579 said:Your options: 1: Renew your passport and provide Revolut with what they're looking for.
2: Close your Revolut account and move on.
And for the record, I've never been asked to provide a single item of ID in 40 years banking, be it paper or digital. Perhaps when I opened my first account in the 80s, I can't recall, but certainly not since.0
