Your options: 1: Renew your passport and provide Revolut with what they're looking for.

2: Close your Revolut account and move on.
I never been asked to renew ID by any financial institution it appears Revolut is going beyond what is required
You must be THE lucky one, quite routine when you change devices or the document you used for initial verification expires when using app based companies.

Previously, I've only ever been asked to provide ID when opening accounts with app or high street financial companies.
Never been asked to provide it again.
Has your passport ever expired before?

It sounds like Revolut's implementation of KYC is that they want a valid passport on file.

To open a Revolut account it states passport or driving license is required

    Correct,
If you re-read my post reply " Never been asked to provide it again"

As in: Need it to open an account, but never needed to ever re-submit again at a later date.

Raised it as a complaint with Revolut and there has been a update !

Apparently their is a bug in their system and it should offer the driving licence option for British account holders.

They are working to resolve it and have apologised that their chat assistant (bot) gave me duff information
They should be offering you something (£25 or so) for giving you duff information and causing inconvenience.

Financial organisations may need to keep customer proof of ID updated to keep up with regulatory requirements, but when they have refused to accept a valid photo card driving licence for an existing customer and threatened to restrict my account, this must be grounds to make a formal complaint ?

    No it isn't.

Quite simple, follow their rules or have your account closed down.
Their "rules" have to be fair though, and arguably not accepting a valid UK issued photo driving licence as ID is unfair, especially for an existing customer who no longer has the ID originally used.

Fortunately there were grounds for complaint, which has allowed the OP to resolve the issue without forking out for an unnecessary passport.

Glad the OP has got this sorted.  personally I've never been asked to resubmit any ID for any bank account I've held at a number of financial institutions in the UK.

And I wonder what the stance would be if someone didn't have a passport or unable to have driving licence renewed.  Thinking of those over 75 who may never have travelled out of the UK so no passport and have had to give up driving - wouldn't this start to fall into discrimination territory?  Banks should, in my opinion, be able to accept alternative forms of ID - bus passes with a few printed letters from the government, i.e. council tax or state pension things.

Im afraid the argument is void. There is no legal requirement to hold a driving licence unless you want to drive, there is no legal requirement to hold a gas bill in paper form. Yet these are used by banks to ensure identity. It’s a bit strange that they will not accept a drivers license, but you need to find another bank if you cannot complete their checks.
Yes, as you say, paper documents are used by banks and building societies to verify ID; yet institutions are pushing us to go paperless - catch 22!

Could it be because Revolut are taking steps to becoming a real bank rather than... whatever they were in the first place? Although it must be said, the fact they can 'mistakenly' demand that only one form of ID is acceptable, then say, "Oops, we meant two," shows perhaps they cannot be trusted to do the most basic task.

And for the record, I've never been asked to provide a single item of ID in 40 years banking, be it paper or digital. Perhaps when I opened my first account in the 80s, I can't recall, but certainly not since.

    Without getting political.
One reason a ID card is a good idea, for people with no other form of ID.
The problem is that to create an account you need those other forms of ID:  UK passport, a non-UK passport with a biometric chip, or a UK photocard driving licence and a few others
I created a GOVUK OneLogin account and it was very slick but then I had the required documents, quite a lot of people don't so they can't be verified digitally at all

I recently did verification for a santander account. I printed statements from hsbc which santander accepted. I remember in the early days of online statements it used to state on them, referring to them being online statements and not official, or something to that effect. These days perhaps not the case.
