Except your reading believing in a journalistic MSE who hasnt got a clue regarding private parking ....which are not fines they are speculative invoices .

Even though that fault is with MSE not the poster .... the poster has been told multiple times which is the correct site to visit.

Eventually that penny will drop .

Regarding private parking thats a major complex battle (in its second decade ? ) that few to no journo,s are interested in other than a headline .

OP - please close this thread.
This query about speeding fines is not a Money Saving issue. It’s also irrelevant to this particular Board, which is about Private Parking.
If advice is needed about a speeding fine - a relevant source has already been suggested (& link provided) above.
To be fair - the forum title is somewhat confusing/outdated

Has any attempt been made to get it renamed ?

It does clearly state “fines” but then the majority of people are then informed (correctly for parking) that it’s “not a fine”.

I believe that there is a feedback system or forum here where suggestions could be made for improvements, such as the naming of a forum title,  but only an mse admin could make those changes

I can highlight the idea of renaming to the admins - what do you think is appropriate?  just "Parking Notices"? or?

Meanwhile - I quite sympathise with the OP as we've had a similar change locally (or perhaps it's the same place?).  People complaining about being caught on local social media have received similar feedback to here.  And yes, the lesson is "don't speed".  But after years of doing 40 on a urban dual carriageway it does take a while to get used to the lower limit.  My comment locally has been there should be more signs marking it at 30 as the point of the change is to make it safer rather than to simply gather fines.  Is there actually a ban on repeating this message??

And I wouldn't depend on a car telling me what the speed limit is - my OH's vehicle often gives the old limit for months after it's been changed.  My VW is too stupid to know what the limit is so I have to watch for the signs myself.

I think the regular private parking posters gave up on MSE a long time ago but that doesnt mean trying again isnt worth doing .....its just how many decades will MSE take for the private parking penny to drop .

How can I learn about how the pope drives?

    No idea.

But perhaps don't drive like the Archbishop of Canterbury?

His grace was fined £500 for speeding in 2023.

Not true any more, I'm pleased to say.

I worked with the MSE journos since last year and they used this forum advice to re-write the MSE Guide which is now on point. They contacted me, and wanted to get the Guide right.

Believe me, more than one member of the MSE journalistic team have taken all stages on board and they now DO understand private parking better than most people.

The advice is spot on in the new MSE Guide to private parking tickets.

This is a parking tickets sub-board; it has never been a forum that deals with speeding fines. It isn't advertised as such.

I told the OP in the very first reply on page one, that the experts are on 'FTLA' which is easy to Google and I made clear is not part of MSE. The OP could have had their answer by now, on FTLA forum.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

    Hi all,

Just addressing a couple of the points raised in the thread about the naming of this board.

Firstly, we hope the name ‘Parking tickets, fines & parking’ identifies it as the space to discuss parking issues rather than speeding issues. However, we're happy to review it/take suggestions on board if there continues to be confusion on that front.

Secondly, we know that some of our highly knowledgable and experienced Forumites use more accurate terms like ’invoice’ or ‘speculative charge’ when it comes to private parking tickets. The latest version of MSE’s guide also addresses this.

But the truth remains that ‘fine’ - rightly or wrongly - is a term that the wider general public typically uses/associates with these sorts of cases, and on the Forum we want this board to be as discoverable as possible for those who need its assistance. Most people are unlikely to be typing ‘speculative parking notice’ into a search engine.

Of course, if our veteran Forumites want to politely inform others that ‘fine’ isn’t necessarily the correct term for private parking tickets then that's fine (no pun intended), but please be mindful of your tone as many people are not as well informed about this topic as you are and they’re simply looking for help.

I've always struggled with the term 'fines' in the descriptor.  We have, over the years had misunderstandings of what we can help with. However, we do signpost to the appropriate FTLA forum section (depending on the type of fine incurred).  Most posters thank us for the signposting, although it's not unknown for some resistance and argumentativeness to it.

Maybe a better descriptor might be 'Private parking tickets, private parking charges, and help in dealing with them'. Just a polite suggestion to move this forward. Other regulars may have other suggestions?
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

I wasn't "looking for speed camera signs and reducing your speed in response".  I am human and, as such, sometimes make mistakes.  That this camera has caught out many drivers (when I had a speed awareness course several of the participants admitted to being caught in the same spot) bears this out.
Penalty points on driving licences are meant to get dangerous drivers off the roads, not get human beings generally off the roads.
Yes, but how many of the "many" drivers have then gone on to make the same mistake, on the same stretch of road, not just once, but a further THREE times?
How the hell would I know?
    vacheron said:

However, I can still tell you exactly where each location was (no two locations were ever the same) and EVERY time I drive past these locations (even in some cases 30 years later), the voice in my head still says "I got caught there once" and I make sure that my speed is correct so it dosn't happen again. i.e. I used them as a learning experience,
That's good for you. But please spare a thought for those for which this learning experience doesn't work with 100% reliability.
    vacheron said:
but it is clear from your responses that you would rather blame everyone else than learn from all your previous (and identical) mistakes which, ironically, is what could identify someone as a dangerous driver which you also consider yourself not to be.
Total nonsense. Learning something and being 100% reliable at putting it into practice are totally different things. And I think I am about 95% reliable at putting it into practice. This was a case of the remaining 5%. As I have said already, I am only human.
    vacheron said:
Clearly the fines / points approach is not getting the message across in your case, and this is the reason why the penalties ultimately increase into something you might remember.... and  "living in fear of being caught again and disqualified from driving" might just be the wake up call you need to stop continuing to be so inattentive behind the wheel.
Making a one-off mistake doesn't constitute being "so inattentive behind the wheel".

    That is great news !
I wasnt aware you were involved in the rewrite so very pleased to be corrected .
The rewrite will reach out to a large sector of people using MSE which will be another thorn the PPC,s have to deal with.

What I noticed in this thread is exactly as you stated the OP didnt take your reply onboard along with others suggesting FTLA .
Bit like his track record with the speed limit fines .
Probably on the right track now though .
