Some of the excuses on here for not being able to pay for parking correctly are pretty lame and absurd in some cases, but regular posters on this board typically spring to their defence, no matter how lame the excuses are.

I'm defending the OP here a little, or at least empathising as I can see why they feel motorists get a bit of sympathy, support and help, and this might have been a place to post. And yes, I do know that parking contraventions are not the same as speeding contraventions.

I don't feel like they are taking it out on people, but they aren't getting the responses that they are hoping for, and replying in a pretty short way. It can be a bitter pill to swallow, but they will almost certainly need to, unfortunately for them.

it may be a counterintuitive bit of  road, but as someone who managed to get two speeding tickets in the same place because of variable speed limits on the motorway, there is no chance I am going to forget to check there in future. If I’d managed  to get through it, it would be permanently drummed into my brain.

This is not on the road or the signage or the decisions by the people putting signs and cameras up,  this is on you.
About 20 years ago I was caught on a quiet road, 36 in a 30 - i mistakenly 'kept up with the traffic' rather than giving it my full attention. Now every time I go down that road, which is a few times a month I remember that speed awareness course - my OH is fed up of me saying 'do you remember this is where I got my ticket' as we drive at 29/30 MPH down that road. I am more aware of that road rather than less aware, and even my OH and my sons are aware- and treat that road very cautiously indeed, even when being 'urged on' by other drivers unaware of a camera partly obscured by a tree in the summer.

I can see that the severity of the standard speeding penalty is designed to compensate for the relative infrequency of actually being caught.  As such, since being caught is practially inevitable on this section of road, the penalty is out of proportion.  After all, nearly every driver speeds to some extent.
    .
By that logic, no cameras should be fixed and they should move them after they take each picture.
You are infrequently caught because you could be speeding on other roads. All fixed cameras are inherently going to catch people frequently if they keep speeding past the same section.

So you're essentially saying all fixed cameras are unfair and not fit for purpose.. that's an issue to take to MPs, not particular to this camera or your case.

Four times on the same stretch of road, and yet somehow that’s not your fault? 🙄
It is indeed not my fault that:
    • the speed limit for that stretch of road is somewhat counterintuitive
    • someone decided to put a speed camera there, where it effects little if any improvement in road safety and hence it's a prime example of a camera people will think is just there to make money
    • probably the first three times, there was no warning sign at the spot of the speed camera
    • my regular group finishes at 9pm, when it's dark outside for 9-10 months of the year
    • I have ASD (I probably should have mentioned this originally, not sure what difference that would make)
TBH The first point is the only one I do understand, that's often a thing that's done well in this country - making a road feel like the speed limit, by say adding trees and physical obstructions on slower roads, or wider straight roads for faster ones.

    Everything else is just
    (i) about how they catch you, but by that point youre already speeding so its only fair that they penalise that to encourage you to stop.
(ii) why perhaps you shouldn't be driving at night or with your ASD if you think it affects your driving sufficiently.

OP - please close this thread.
This query about speeding fines is not a Money Saving issue. It’s also irrelevant to this particular Board, which is about Private Parking.
If advice is needed about a speeding fine - a relevant source has already been suggested (& link provided) above.

To be fair - the forum title is somewhat confusing/outdated

Has any attempt been made to get it renamed ?

It does clearly state “fines” but then the majority of people are then informed (correctly for parking) that it’s “not a fine”.

I believe that there is a feedback system or forum here where suggestions could be made for improvements, such as the naming of a forum title,  but only an mse admin could make those changes

I did look to move the thread, but the only other place is the main motoring thread and I don't know if it fits there either.

As the subject relates to a "motoring fine" and its in a subforum of the "Motoring" section that specifically includes "fines", I also can't think of anywhere more appropriate for it to be.
    • The rich buy assets.
    • The poor only have expenses.
    • The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.
