NST September 2025: Keep It Simple!

A quietly productive weekend, though hardly noticeable. Lots put away in the bureau cubby holes. A couple of free ones but have found 3 rolls of tape and 3 rolls of sticky labels which now need accommodation and a problem to solve - need something tall and thin which will fit inside a cubby to hold standard size stapler and the boxes of staples at the bottom. Recognize these are useful things which are small enough to disappear (hide) when you aren't looking.
I've also managed to 'lose' my box of pills (face palm). I'd added over the counter meds to my remaining prescription pills (you don't want to hear the farcical tale of trying to re-order prescription items last Friday) so they are packed tightly enough not to fall out (happens all too frequently). I put it down yesterday evening (after evening pills) and I can't see it. It's about 16" long and 4" x 4" height and width so not easy to miss or hide in the folds of the duvet (moved it somewhere safe, HA HA).
I have found many useful and wonderful things on my travels (enough tape and stamps for the end of year festival, another pair of glasses - only one pair missing and I think they might be upstairs in my old bedroom). It's the nature of the items that is making my sorting slow so I'll stop berating myself.
I am having a mental health dip which I'm slowly isolating into separate issues whilst trying not to give in to despair. Things will get better. (and I need my vitamin D and the folic acid). I've got through worse and I'll get through this and I haven't sunk so low as to use my 'I will not cry, I will not feel sorry for myself' mantra. Making slow steady progress despite everything.
Grateful for lovely books (3 by one of my favourite authors, using a pseudonym to step outside his usual genre), easy food (lots of soup, baked beans and sandwiches, lots of hot and cold for comfort and soothing my throat), the joy of treasure hunting (if it has to be done, you might as well find some way of making it entertaining)6 -
Keep plodding @grandmanerd. How about a small plastic box to put stapler & gubbins in that can then fit in the cubbyhole. xI am a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Mortgage Free Wannabe & Local Money Saving Scotland & Disability Money Matters. I’m back with nsd#15 today. Took lunch to work and made dinner from stores. Monday is always a struggle as my brain doesn’t want to go back to routine. Glad to hear everyone is well and progressing well this month.Mortgage free wannabee 2022 #824

DS3 at college this week, so had an extra half hour in bed 😀 did Norwegian & energetic exercise routine, so nearly 2K steps clocked up before breakfast.
A stressful morning at work, clicked up another 6K steps! Was so glad when the bell rang at the end of the day.
DS3 said he was catching an earlier bus home, so sat at the bus stop (5 miles from our house) for half an hour, then dropped him at his friend's house. I had a nap for 20 mins.
After tea I baked DS2'S birthday cake, will have to ice it after work tomorrow. He won't eat any himself, but we will 😋 21 years old... Made his & another 5 cards afterwards. Talk about leaving things to the last minute!
Grateful for the support of colleagues, not getting soaked at breaktime, laughs at lunchtime about our day trip on SaturdayUse it up, wear it out

Hello Turtles,
Just poking my nose in to see how you are all doing. I’ve been on a bit of a walkabout for the past few months. After paying off the mortgage, I suppose I was wondering what on earth comes next. Turns out the answer is simple… I just need to keep on being a Ninja Turtle! 🤣
Nothing magical happens once the mortgage is gone, except maybe a little more peace of mind. Everything else carries on exactly the same. Did you know you still have to pay all your bills even after the mortgage is paid off? Who knew! 🤣
Hope you’re all keeping well xx

Happy birthday to DS2, thrifty! And what a fab idea, getting the signed sign for DH. Are you able to hide it for the next 3 months?Wotcha ldee! Good to see you again. Yeah, those pesky bills never stop!I'm a step-grandma for the 5th time - yay! I now have 3 boys and 2 girls.I'm grateful for the safe arrival, for my post-surgery eye doing well, for tidying up the garden, for bumping into various neighbours around the place and having nice chats, for still being able to dry the washing outside, for bits and bobs of work, for my 'no sugar' eating going well.NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!5

Hi Dr Carrie.
Mixed results yesterday. Succeeded in organising my diabetic foot appointment. Asked the worker if they could do insole appointments too (different phone number but same call centre). She went through a list of questions then said they didn't have me registered for insoles but she would send me a referral letter and I could make an appointment when I received it.
Tried to book my flu injection via the link on my phone. First time I only got halfway through inputting it into my computer. The second time it told me I'd got it wrong. Checked carefully and I'd missed out a 3 - it's 55 digits long. It blinked out when I tried to just insert the missing 3. tried again, got on the right page, put in my dob - it said the link had expired and I should return to the log in page. Back and forth a few times then I gave up - I will phone the surgery.
Came across the number for blood tests. Started to input my details for the first appointment (tomorrow, Thursday) then it said if I'd had any of a list of symptoms (COVID/ flu/ coughs and cold symptoms) in the last 2 weeks, to stay home. Well I think I've had one week symptom free since August, so I logged out. That's one element contributing to my depression dip - realising that it's only September and this might well carry on until March. I feel so weak and tired already.
So by late afternoon I needed a nap. Felt much better after a 2 hour nap. I'm determined to make things better where I can - be positive and in situations where there's nothing I can do, try to find a way round it or a new way of looking at the problem.
Grateful for positive thinking, getting washing out on the line (DS3 had helpfully unloaded the WM and dumped the wet clothes on top of the pile of clean dried washing), DS3 finding my box of pills (it was in plain sight, just on the other side of the room near my chair).5
