If he sells lots of items, your neutral is really going to hamper his sales.

If it was me I would not leave any feedback, give him a neutral or negative and he's going to give you the same or worse back.

People may advise you that you should leave a negative to warn others but how many of them would do that, you're not getting your money back so why should you get a negative on top of that.

I've dealt with many shoddy sellers mainly ones who sell items as new when they are blatently not, a lot of these have perfect feedback scores. Feedback is not as reliable as ebay claim it is, as a lot of buyers do not want retailitory feedback. I now make sure I only bid on auctions that have photos to illustrate the item.

Well, I would, and I have. I made reasonable efforts to contact the seller of a misdescribed item, was ignored, opened a dispute, won, got a refund, then negged him.
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

    .. I bought a book off ebay,
£ 2.99 plus postage £ 3.50 first class, i thought postage a bit dear, but priced together book still not bad, so ordered it ,
A week later it arrived, postage second class at a cost of 89pence,
i emailed seller asking for refund , he emailed back using the F word through ebay stating did i want him to give me the book for F...... nothing i am a power seller i can do what the F... i want, ect ect.
i left him neg feedback rightley warning of postage costs.
he sent me another four even worse emails all through ebay,
    .,
I hope you reported the emails to ebay. I doubt they would have done much but unless members complain about abuse, ebay can do nothing.

I suppose you could have raised a claim on the basis of “item not as described” as you did not receive the one or two day delivery that you could reasonably have expected from first class post. I doubt that it would have done you any good as ebay allow for up to a week for delivery and frankly would it have been worth the bother?

In your shoes I would have just accepted the situation. You got the book at a price you were prepared to pay. OK, it took a week to arrive. Did that really matter that much?
  • Sorry but I think you deserved a neg. If one of my buyers left neutral without giving me the chance to put things right then I would neg in return. Feedback is not for communication - that's what e-mail is for.

Why not just neutral me back? What good would contacting them have been? I don't particularly care about a refund, there is no other possible resolution, so I just commented honestly on the transaction, which they have not done as I didn;t waste their time. They could have neutralled me and said I didn;t get in touch, but that's really as far as I feel they should go.

eBay consider Negs and neutrals as one and the same when rating Seller Non Performance, so a LOT of sellers, myself included, will automatically reply with a negative to any neutrals left without prior communication. My negs simply state - "Inappropriate use of feedback, no prior communication from buyer". This has been known to prompt buyers into emailing me, but as far as I am concerned, the transaction is over. Mutual withdrawal request are ignored.

It only takes a few seconds to send an email to explain you are not happy, and depending on the response received then feedback should be judged accordingly.

Still, if it is only a buying account you have received the neg on, then take it on the chin and move on - it means nothing if you don't sell anything.

It's because of buyers that don't leave feedback cos they're scared of getting a neg, that the system doesn't work.

Your obligation to other potential buyers is to tell the truth about shoddy goods or services - sadly this almost inevitably means that you will get a neg.

The best way to reply is to put "undeserved, retaliatory neg by poor seller". It's short, calm and to the point.
I let my mind wander and it never came back!
  • Personally I think it's a very wrong thing to do- to leave neutral or neg without communicating with the seller first. If somebody did it to me it's more than likely he would get a neg in return for non communication. And as a buyer I would ALWAYS try to contact seller first if I'm unhappy with what I received. Might well be your seller is having poor standards about the quality of the items or is considering the quality is ok for the money he's selling it for, but you didn't give him a chance to offer you a refund, honestly I'm not surprised he wasn't happy and negged you.

I predict in 2008 someone is going to get stabbed for leaving a neg.
You just need to look at how peeved off people get about it on here and the ranting and raving that goes on.
Bearing in mind that both parties have each others address and there are so many nutters out there I am amazed nowone has been killed yet.
Am sure its only a matter of time.

You should have contacted seller first so they could put things right. I am not a big seller but i would expect someone to contact me first if thedy had an issue, if they left bad feedback with no contact i would be pretty !!!!!! off.

As a buyer if i wasnt happy i would never leave feedback until i had informed selller that there was an issue and could they solve this.

if i was you i would take your neg and learn from this experience.
