I've been in the same situation. I replied to the neg saying it was retaliation for daring to leave a neutral and invited people to compare my feedback to that of the sellers.

At the end of the day it's one bad mark on an internet auction site..... it's not so very important.

I'll just add they have this feedback:
    1 month6 months12 monthss.gificonPos_16x16.gifPositive22913981924s.gificonNeu_16x16.gifNeutral42129s.gificonNeg_16x16.gifNegative01016

and mine previously was totally positive.

didn;t wwork. anyway, they have a fair few negs and neutrals, and seem to always neg for neutrals and say things like 'unfair' when it clearly isn;t.

I gotta say, the first step in the event of dissatisfaction should be to contact the seller, not start throwing neutrals around.

It's a bit of a tough one though the seller is probably aware that the items are low quality but doesn't pass this on very well in the description

It's like if you went into tesco and bought a pair of their £3 value jeans. If you got it home and found one of the legs hanging off (ie a fault), you'd take it back for a refund/replacment
Whereas if you got home and realised that they were in general just rather low quality would you take them back? My guess is most people would just grumble about it to a friend, ie "feedback"

its just something you learn over the yrs. never use the neutral.
its either a neg or a pos.

and i know the feeling when you are still on a 100%. the first one ever for me was when the seller never delivered/sent the item, so i negged him. he negged me back!? ebay did nowt. the chap was NARU a few days later!
!!!!!! is that all about eh?

the second one was when a buyer didnt read my description properly. ie sold as seen and no warranty. bid accordingly.
he negged me cause item didnt work! (it did when sent).
ebay gets on me nerves but i learn to live with it now.
    most times anyways.
    Get some gorm.

Why not just neutral me back? What good would contacting them have been? I don't particularly care about a refund, there is no other possible resolution, so I just commented honestly on the transaction, which they have not done as I didn;t waste their time. They could have neutralled me and said I didn;t get in touch, but that's really as far as I feel they should go.
You will never know because you didn’t try. You gave them no opportunity to try to rectify matters. I am not really surprised that they gave you a negative.

There were lots of possible resolutions.

If you had contacted them and complained, they might have refunded you your money in full and told you to keep the belt anyway. They might have refunded you but asked you to return it at their cost, or at your cost. They might have replaced it with a higher quality item. They might have told you to take a hike.

As Fay writes, whenever there is a problem, absolutely the first thing to do is to contact the other party.

It doesn’t really matter anyway. You are bound to get a negative eventually and one negative in 163 is almost meaningless. It will not really harm your reputation. :)

    Been negged, it sucks,
I got negged twice not very nicely either, I bought a book off ebay,
£ 2.99 plus postage £ 3.50 first class, i thought postage a bit dear, but priced together book still not bad, so ordered it ,
A week later it arrived, postage second class at a cost of 89pence,
i emailed seller asking for refund , he emailed back using the F word through ebay stating did i want him to give me the book for F...... nothing i am a power seller i can do what the F... i want, ect ect.
i left him neg feedback rightley warning of postage costs.
he sent me another four even worse emails all through ebay,
he is a !!!!!!, but thats another matter,
he negged me leave well alone bad ebayer ect,
but realy if a customer lookes at your feedback they see why you have had a neg feedback and if they go further to see who gave you it and if the other person has had previous neg feedback,, as clear as mud , but you know what i mean. and yes i did make several complaints to ebay but no answer,

Sellers are becoming more likely to neg because of the new way ebay are counting neutrals - they are now almost as bad for a seller as a negative.
You should always contact a seller if you are unhappy with an item, to give them a chance to rectify the situation, only of they are not helpful should a neutral or neg be given, if the first I heard about a problem was through feedback - I would neg too!
I've just given a neutral to a seller on my buying id - I received faulty goods and was refunded after returning the item at my own expense - she then opened a non payment dispute against me!
It took 4 weeks to be resolved. That is another failure in the ebay system - if you have obviously paid and been refunded, how on earth should they be allowed to open a dispute?

    Why on earth not???????

You should have contacted seller first with your concerns, then only neg/neutral if the problem was not resolved. If a refund was given then a positive mentioning a satisfactory resolution to a problem would have been sufficient.
I would be MAD to receive a neg/neutral from a buyer who had not contacted me first and MIGHT leave a neg in return too (depending on my mood!)

So there is, thank you. WHat should I say?? I paid up, was a good buyer, but the item really was very poor quality and I felt other buyers should know. I am not a timewaster, I have 163 positive feedbacks, and previously had a 100 per cent score.

Put that! How many words do you have to play with?

You should be able to fit " I paid up, was a good buyer, but the item really was very poor quality and I felt other buyers should know"
