I couldn't find an existing thread for this so here goes:

New switch offer from Barclays.

What you need to do:
  • Step 1 : Open a Barclays Bank Account or Premier Current Account in the Barclays app

  • Step 2 : If you’ve opened a Barclays Bank Account, join Blue Rewards for £5 a month

  • Step 3 : Complete a full switch in the Barclays app, including at least two Direct Debits

  • Step 4 : Pay £1,500 into your new account.

You have to use the app to apply for your eligible Barclays account and start your switch, not the website.

You are not eligible if you had any current account open with Barclays on or before 15th July 2025, or if you've ever received switching cash from them before.

For future reference, Ts&Cs have now been archived to the wayback machine:

Looks like this is the new norm now about everyone being excluded if they have ever received a switching bonus.

Use the Current Account Switch Service to move your current account from another participating bank or building society to us, including at least two active Direct Debits.

    Is Chase account included?

It says "new customers only", but delving deep into the T&Cs, it looks like you might still be eligible if you previously had a current account with them but it's no longer open on the date this offer started. Provided you haven't previously received a switching bonus from them, of course.

I imagine so. Just be mindful to open an additional Chase bank account as switching away your one and only Chase bank account will close your Chase account and you can’t rejoin. - https://www.chase.co.uk/gb/en/support/switching-from-chase/

I literally just opened a Barclays account a week or so ago, painful.

Hmmm, my interpretation of this is that if you've ever had a current account with Barclays in the past you're ineligible, but if you were a Barclays customer in the past (or even if you're one now) and didn't have a current account with them (e.g. you just had a credit card account) then you are eligible.

I think "new customer" means a new current account customer who hasn't had one before ever, but can have had other products with them.

I guess they think wording the terms like this gives them more wiggle room to decline paying some bonuses.

Yes, I had a look for my kids who had kids accounts with Barclays but as both matured to adult accounts I don't think they count as new customers even though they never had any sort of bonus from them. Both switched away about 18 months ago. One of them might chance it, the other doesn't want to waste money in blue rewards if it's not a guaranteed bonus.

When I look into the T&Cs, it says you are excluded if "You already have any open Barclays Current Account on or before this offer started on 15 July 2025. This includes, but isn’t limited to, a Barclays Bank Account, Student/Graduate Account, Platinum Bank Account, or a Premier Current Account". Open is the key word in my view, and I would argue that if you were a past customer who had previously held a current account but it was closed before they launched the offer, then you would be eligible if you had never had a switch incentive from them before. You just need to open a new account and follow all the other requirements.

OK, I see what you're saying but why put in the "before"?

Why not just say "You already have any open Barclays Current Account when this offer started on 15 July 2025."?

If I had an open Barclays Current account on the 4th July, and closed it on that day, is that not an open Barclays Current Account before this offer started on 15th July?
