Anyone still on the completely free RWG plan?
Options
I've been on the free (50/50/250mb) RWG plan for 5 years, but over the last year the service has become progressively more flaky, with incoming and outgoing connections failing regularly.
I found myself unable to reply to a text last night so checked my allowance only to be told I have no allowances. Previous "chargeable' text and allowance check were less than a month ago, so they've changed something in the last ~25 days.
There are two other SIMs in the household on the same plan and they're showing similar issues (although they can't even send an allowance check message).
I've emailed RWG but no reply as yet. NowMobile customer service is beyond useless.
Have they pulled the completely free legacy plan? Or is it still working fine for you? If it's a temporary thing and it's still fine for others I'll stick with it.
Thanks for reading!

We have a couple of these original free RWG SIM's. One stopped working due to lack of use and a quick chat with a human on Now Mobile chat had it reactivated within seconds. One unexpected bonus is that it now works on 5G as well. The other SIM has worked correctly since day one and continues to refresh the allowances as it should each month.

Both my 50/50/250 still seem to be working at the moment.
I have noticed more though that people do comment saying i tried to ring you. Yet i have no missed call showing. Ive also sent a couple of texts to check balance or to other people and they dont go through first time.
Im sticking with the service for now, i just hope i dont loose my number. As ive just done away with my landline.0 -
Interesting ive just noticed on google that when you type in rwg mobile. On the details page it says permanently closed at the Newport office. The website is still running. I wish we could get some proper clarity as to whether they have been taken over by now mobile or whether we will all find our numbers suddenly stop working.0

They operated with capacity supplied by NOW mobile. The convention is that if a provider goes out of business* then the capacity provider takes over their customers. For example, in the very very unlikely scenario that Tescomobile stopped, then O2 would take on the customers. This happened some years ago when Vodafone took on the customers of another free/pay once provider.
* I'm not saying that RWG have gone out of business but they are clearly not trading as usual. Looking at companies house, in the last published accounts, they seem to have had comparatively low turnover compared to how much they owe. (RWG is a trading name not the company name.)

Is RWG even a true MVNO, like Asda or Tesco? The SIM card was printed as Now Mobile and Now is reported as the provider by the phone. At most it seems RWG was simply selling a Now Mobile tariff which was exclusive to RWG, evidenced by how easily Now staff can manage accounts.0

Could anyone confirm if the "check bundle time" facility is working for them. I am on the free £5 package from 2022. When I text my bundle code, I get no response whatsoever, yet my calls and text appear to be working normally. The last time that I tried it was the 20th of June and it was working then.0

Too many problems, too often.I've just got my PAC and I am moving elsewhere (I needed to chat to Now Chat to get it).0
