I have had an email from Orchid confirming that AbroadTel can now be used with their dialler after we set it up.

Non CPS Users (or OneTel CPS users)

    Quick Setup Guide

    1. Add as a Carrier "0844 452 0005 - Mobile AbroadTel"
    2. Add as a routing option "00447 - AbroadTel Mobile" and specify that for daytime, evening & weekend to use the "0844 452 0005 - Mobile AbroadTel" carrier you have just added.

    How to use

Just dial (remember in international format and omiting the inital 0 before the mobile number) "0044 7xxxxxxxxx". Eg, to dial 07123 456 789, would be dialled as 0044 7123 456 789.

    CPS Users (eg. TalkTalk/Tele2, etc)

    Quick Setup Guide

    1. Add as a Carrier "0844 452 0005 - Mobile AbroadTel"
    2. Add as a routing option "1280 - 1280 CPS Override" (with the 'S' attribute) and specify that for daytime, evening & weekend to use the "0844 452 0005 - AbroadTel" carrier you have just added.

    How to use

Just dial (remember in international format and omiting the inital 0 before the mobile number) "1280 0044 7xxxxxxxxx". Eg, to dial 07123 456 789, would be dialled as 1280 0044 7123 456 789.

    That's it.

The reason as to why there are two options is that unfortunately some CPS providers like OneTel/TalkTalk/Tele2, etc do not support all 0844 numbers and therefore have to dial 1280 (CPS Override) to have BT carry the calls instead of the CPS provider. The easiest way to check if your CPS provider supports the 0844 number is just to dial it as it is. Eg. 0844 452 0005. If AbroadTel don't answer the phone then your CPS provider doesn't yet support that number and you will have to use 1280 to route the call back to BT.

UPDATE: OneTel CPS users are able to dial AbroadTel's 0844 mobile access number without the need to dial BT's override code of 1280. I'm not sure if other CPS users' like TalkTalk/Tele2, etc can.

Also, due to some local area numbers beginning with "7" it was not possible to have the dialler automatically use AbroadTel when we dialled a number beginning with "7" (eg a mobile (0)7123 456 789) as it was interpreting it as a local number.

    Thanks
  • Shame its such a ball ache to do ...... my other half wont stand for dialing this number and then that number etc etc ....... :(

The main reason is because AbroadTel need the mobile number in international format. Due to this it makes things more of a pain in the bum. I assume AbroadTel route the mobile call internationally and that's why its only 5ppm and not upto around 20ppm if dialling normally.
  • Maybe somebody could ask abroadtel to make an access number for UK customers?

It would help us and will put a lot of biz there way?

The reason that you have to dial the full intl access code is because Abroadtel route the calls via Europe which enables them to slash the prices to 5p a minute. If they were to allow direct 0844 UK access the cost of calls would be dearer.
    PF.
  • I thought this was a scam because I tested it three times (to my own mobile) and each time it said "the number you are trying to contact is engaged", which I knew to be incorrect. Now I've come here, I can see that the 0044 prefix must be important. I will try again during the week. Cheers all.

That message may mean you've misdialled as calls that have higher tariffs than available from the number get the same message. Once though I did end up talking to a woman that I assume was in Norway (+47 - I must have missed a 0 or 4)

I just noticed on AbroadTel's website under the heading of "Summer Special", it mentions that calls to mobiles are only 5ppm. Therefore I suspect that after this "summer special" ends then calls to mobiles will no longer be 5ppm so be aware and check AbroadTel's website every now and again for any price increase.

As the 0844 numbers are fixed and can't be changed then AbroadTel would have to use a new access number if they wanted to increase the calls from 5ppm.

If/when it ends there will be a message about a new access number to use; this already happens (sometimes) if you try the wrong one

For those that haven't noticed pricefighters new post, you can now call mobiles at only 4ppm without having to dial it in international format.

    See pricefighters new post here.
