banned from an e-bay shop for asking questions

 I have been looking for some new bras after my oh commented on my greying washed out bras which I currently wear are not exactly sexy.

I normally buy from m&s but thought I would try some on ebay, due to my enormous cleavage, my bras cost a bomb.

So My first question to this particular shop was how do they fit. As a loyal m&s fan (well for bras anyway) I was unsure they fit. I was told she had had no complaints, but that she runs a seven day returns policy. Fair enough.

I had a look around the site, thinking I would order four or five and save on postage. Only to find the same bra a pound cheaper singularly (I was looking at a set of two) and three to four pounds cheaper as a set in other sizes.

I then sent the killer question and asked why? If I went into a shop they would not be priced differently according to size so why on ebay. this was my reply:0

Supply and demand!!!!!!!!
Easily resolved, welcome to my blocked buyers list.
Kind regards,

Amazing. I am rather hurt as I was genuinely interested in the items. I currently have 100% feedback and was not messing around.

    Unless they misunderstood your question...

A lot of sellers receive the question "Why can I buy this cheaper in a high street shop" - to which the stock response is along the lines of "It's sold out there, so pay a premium to get it here". I guess they did not pick up that one of their items was being sold cheaper than one of their other listings.

I am tempted to name and shame, but this person has a 100% feedback with over 6000, over the past 2-3 years. what I am more annoyed with now is that she will only do business with people who are easy to give good customer service to. Obviously if you ask too many questions you get blocked and therefore don't dent the magic 100%

    Just setup another eBay account
  • While I agree that the seller was rude, it would annoy me if a buyer contacted me to question my prices.

being a 36 EE I get mine from debenhams, and they wash great, not much use to the ebay problem, but better than M&S prices, Deb's start from £12 ...

Can we please not get into the name and shame debate here, this is not the place and posts will be pulled.

Secondly, if I had an email that appeared to suggest they had a problem with my pricing policy I would block the buyer as well. It just screams out to me that the buyer does not understand how ebay works and I would probably be tempted to tell them to go back to M and S if they didn't like my prices. OP..Ebay sellers tend to be small traders or personal sellers. If you want M and S standard pricing shop there instead. No seller has to explain their pricing policy, if you don't like it don't bid.

I don't sell bras but I used to sell a widget that came in two colours, both of which cost me the same price but one colour of which sold for much more as it was the colour that everyone wanted. So the black one went faster than the red one so when I listed BINS I priced it higher than the red ones as I worked out the price at which each one would sell and just used that as my BIN guideline.

I have found in the past excessive questions from a potential buyer can lead to excessive problems/returns post sale. Unfortunately on Amazon I can't block buyers and I do try to be polite as possible to the sometimes really daft questions.

I sell items that are sometimes different colours and there can sometimes be 10%-15% difference in price depending on how each colour is selling and my stock levels.

However if I was the OP I would have asked the question differently ie How much for 5 and let the seller come back to you.

As a seller on Ebay I do think being added to their blocked buyer list may have been a bit extreme and wonder if there is more to the story.

I have put people on my blocked bidders list for various things but not asking a question and think it is a valuable tool for a seller as at the end of the day it costs quite a bit to sell on Ebay these days.

With regard to the pricing I can totally understand the difference in price for the different sizes and as put in other posts its simply down to supply and demand which is the basics of Ebay.

Ebay is simple if you don't like the price don't buy.

Even catalogues such as Simply Be sell items that are less in demand for a higher price. On some of their items a size 12 is one price and a larger size, say a 24 is a couple of pounds more expensive. As far as I know it's only because they sell less of the larger items - although that's not to say it's fair.

Also, when I used to work in clothing retail if we had a range of, say, t-shirts, in various colours and the sale went on the black, white and cream would stay at full price and any other colours would be reduced - it is a case of supply and demand - the more popular colours will sell not matter what the price and the more 'niche' colours/sizes will not necessarily.

It is a little harsh adding you to the blocked buyers for asking a question, but if the seller does have the feeedback rate you've indicate, I'm afraid she can afford to do that and not have people question her pricing structure.
I'm so sexy it's a wonder my underpants don't explode.
