Should itsthelittlethings spend less on coffee?

  • Payday has been and gone. Managed to spend about £25 in Tescos on coffee for half the months (no wonder I don’t have any money) and £45 (!!!!!) in Aldi. I bought some nice perfume (£5) and some cleanser (£3.50) plus olive oil and treats for work. I think that’s what pushed me over the usual Aldi £32 spend. Maybe there has been some food inflation.

Work is good if a little bit tiring. We’re all getting on ok.

One week until I go away. I need to get my Euros. Yet another thing to do this weekend.

  • I have my euros. I had to buy £100 worth which somehow cost £109. Anyway I have them now. Five days till we go away. Thursday is supposed to be sunny although rain Friday and Saturday.

Need to do a wash tonight. I have to write my assignment this weekend so that's the main thing although a few other chores and errands have snuck in.

Just watching Cheers. I'm off to work in a bit.

  • Waiting in for a delivery. Could be any minute now. After that I’m going out for a walk (it’s absolutely dire weather here, I invited a friend over for lunch but we have rolled the invitation over as she was going to take her son to the park on the way.

Me and Mr Unsuitable have mutually decided to call it a day. We have left the door open for contact and more if we feel like it. I found it hard to let him go but I’m a lot happier without the constant background stress and rage. My sleep is much better since I met him! So I am very grateful to him for that. I hope he can meet someone and be happy. I think I just wanted to make him happy and he didn’t necessarily want to be. Or something. Not gonna overanalyse it.

The family seem ok. My sister and niece might come over on Monday. Of course, it could be anything between 1-4 people. I give up. My freezer might get a treat. Unsure whether to make mutter paneer curry or insalata caprese with baguette and butter. On balance I think insalata caprese. Then I’m away for 4 days in France so I could have any leftover mozzarella on Sunday night when I get back. Or something. I could make a pasta salad for lunches Mon-Tues with mozzarella and tomato. I think mozzarella keeps for 8 days. Ho hum. As I always say, no wonder I never have any money.

There is an exhibition at one of the libraries about the water cycle. Living water, I think it’s called. My new found interest in Geography is serving me well. I’ve lost interest in knitting but that’s very much a winter thing for me. I feel like mentally I’ve moved out of winter early this year.

Awake early. Just watching some Netflix. It’s a show called Shrill. It’s so funny.

Hop in the shower and then pack to go to Starbucks at 7 and bash out an essay. I panicked about money last night but I did a money spreadsheet which I’ve checked over this morning and it’s all ok. My bills and subscriptions seem to have gone up recently but I can still put £300 towards debt next month. Unless my fridge breaks I’m ok.

I tried working on my side hustle last night. It’s harder than it looks.

I’m all ready to go to Star£ucks and do the essay but I can’t leave for 45 minutes. Fifteen minutes to pack gives me half an hour to sofa veg and doom scroll. Both free except for the adverts on Instagram which I inevitably end up paying for.

Spend spend spend; how much have you spent in the last two days?
Why do you inevitably end up paying for ads on instagram?
You say bills and subscriptions have gone up but I thought you’d cancelled most of the subscriptions?
Netflix; did you change to the cheaper version with ads?

Honestly have you read any of the comments trying to help you? It certainly doesn’t seem like you have as you’ve not commented on any

There was a fabulous post yesterday on another diary which would’ve good read for you: Try reading the diary of ChampagneSupernova36 and the post they made yesterday

I have had one major mindset change. I used to be focussed on escape. I was desperate to get out of the small town I live in and move to London. My days were spent dreaming of how I could earn ten thousand pounds a year more, save up £70,000 to get a flat in London with a mortgage, leave the life I was living. I won’t lie and say I wouldn’t like to leave but I no longer feel the desperation I used to feel. Maybe I’ve lost my dreams and given up. I don’t know.

I’m going to sit down with my transactions list and highlight all the spends I could have cut this evening.

I only did half of my assignment in Starbucks. I have made a good start. I’ll write the rest on Wednesday when I have a day off for a personal appointment. Down to the wire. I think I’ll get a high mark although I’m sure it won’t be 100% again.

I’m still thinking about becoming a PA. Is reception to PA a career path?

If I’m honest it’s just because I knew one really cool but chaotic PA in my first reception job. I’m not very good at imagining things I haven’t seen.

Anyway. Wash up, washing away and then a cup of home brewed coffee (estimate 70p).

Up early but very rested after 8 good hours, minimally chemically aided sleep (I have terrible sleep problems and more which I won’t go into too much here). I cancelled something last night which means I have a big chunk of money going back into my bank account at some point. Should easily get to months end. Have also just remembered I have £40 in my Monzo account. Result. I need to hop in the shower in a minute and head to work.

Gym tonight then family round (yay!!!). I’m making tomato and mozzarella salad with some chorizo to snack on and provolone in the oven from Lidl. I’ll do bread to dip and some chips for my niece.

Right. 5.15 up and at it. Twenty minutes to drink coffee and scroll.
