Hi Bellsbells, I am a new member in MSE forum, and I would like to set a target for myself. I currently have a mortgage of 65000 pounds, I aim to invest+save so that I can be mortgage free within 3 years.

First step is 20k less before April 2009!
    :)

Wow, way to go, thats some overpayment!
But these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.

I wonder if anyone can help shed some light on the following for me : since i started doing this challenge i have been keeping a daiily log of the interest i am charged on my mortgage - each day it is at a consistent amount (apart from once a month when it drops down after the main payment) but on Thursday it jumped up by three times the daily amount (regular daily amount plus two additional!) i wondered if it was maybe to do with the fact that it was easter and that because of the bank holidays they had lumped Thursday, Friday and Monday all together - but this cannot be right because each day it has continued to go up by the regular daily amount

anyone got any ideas? hope i managed to explain it clearly enough

Hi all - hope you are all having a good weekend -

Update on the above - Doh ! it was my fault in my calculations I had missed a couple of days of recording the interest amounts and so it looked like it had jumepd up when it hadn't. All I can blame is the pregnancy hormones!! and thank goodness I worked it out before getting onto my guy at the nationwide - i would have been so embarassed!!

Anyway congratulations to everyone again for a wonderful March - first quarter in !

    Hi All

Just back from a lovely holiday in Malaysia and feeling lucky to have missed the snow. Paid off £950 this month which is great. It will be slow for the next two months once the holiday bills start coming through................... I need to start selling on Ebay but I'm missing a motivation gene, with a bit of luck my lack of being able to pay much extra without new income will get me going. I have found the camera which is a start.
  • End of march already! Where does the time go?

Well my total for march is £540 - but the 500 bit was a one off, it'll be small amounts from now on.

    Well done everyone!
  • Hi,

    Hi,

I've just made my first overpayment since starting this last month - £300, yay me!!! Should have paid it in much sooner though but have not been organised enough (I'm in the middle of teacher training/PGCE so am soooo busy). Tomorrow I'll buy some stamps and envelopes so I can post cheques to the bank rather than saving it up until I can actually get into town.

    Just thought I'd share!

I haven't posted on the thread but it doesn't mean I'm not reading!! I have saved £508.30 towards my £4500 target. I know it's not a lot but by the end of the April I will have no debts other than my mortgage which is the first time in I don't know how long. so I am very, very proud of myself and from April I can put more towards the mortgage. Thanks everyone of the inspiration.

well done alli - and congratulations on nearly becoming debt free - it is a wonderful feeling isn't it?

I'm new to this thread and although I've had an offset mortgage for a while in an attempt to pay it off quicker, I haven't got figures to pm anyone yet, but this thread is great for motivation! I don't overpay as such, just pay into the savings part each month until savings=mortagage debt and it can just then toddle along paying for itself with no extra input from me :T My aim is to pay as much in by Sept 2009 cos I want to start to retrain which means going back to being a student with no money for mortgages  I'm pretty set with budgeting and putting a decent amount of my salary in each month, but has anyone tried credit cards to keep money offsetting for longer?

welcome to the thread bubbleette - don't worry about not having a specific figure to PM me - I can put your target down as to ofsett as much as possible this year, then if you want to/can give me any figures later I can add them.
