Sorry guys I have got really behind with this thread this month - unfortunately the need to earn money came first! Although I've done a pretty good job on spending it as well (new ipod, yay!)

Anyhow just to declare a total for this month of £281.50 which makes a grand total of £717.50 for me for this year. So I have paid 28.5% of my goal (£2500) and we're only three months in, putting me slightly ahead of target!

Hope you're all doing well too.
  • Sorry I've not been around much recently. There's a lot of newbies to this thread which is great news:j, welcome to you all and I hope this thread inspires you to overpay your mortgage this year.

Also wanted to say congratulations to those people already ahead of their year's target - keep up the great work:T:T:T
  • I haven't posted on the thread but it doesn't mean I'm not reading!! I have saved £508.30 towards my £4500 target. I know it's not a lot but by the end of the April I will have no debts other than my mortgage which is the first time in I don't know how long. so I am very, very proud of myself and from April I can put more towards the mortgage. Thanks everyone of the inspiration.
    Taking responsibility for my future!

  • I'm new to this thread and although I've had an offset mortgage for a while in an attempt to pay it off quicker, I haven't got figures to pm anyone yet, but this thread is great for motivation! I don't overpay as such, just pay into the savings part each month until savings=mortagage debt and it can just then toddle along paying for itself with no extra input from me :T My aim is to pay as much in by Sept 2009 cos I want to start to retrain which means going back to being a student with no money for mortgages  I'm pretty set with budgeting and putting a decent amount of my salary in each month, but has anyone tried credit cards to keep money offsetting for longer?

i'm a little fearful of creditcards due to being a bit dim in my youth with them, i'm still trying and(succeeding i think) to pay one off now and when that's gone it will be paid off monthly without fail...preferably getting cashback whilst i do it
I am now debt free! Whoop whoop! :money::beer:

:hello: Hi everyone - welcolme to all the newbies

I just popped in to say that my mortgage company has written to me (not a statement ... thats not due till August) to say that my balance as at the 31st March is £92,833.53 which means that since taking the mortgage out in August and overpaying since then ..... I have now paid off ........£2,666.47 (normal payments and overpayments):j

Feeling quite chuffed with myself at the mo.

Been looking for quotes for my home insurance using Martin's tips. My renewal was £265 & I got quotes ranging from £200 to £950??? I've been saving all year for it so I've managed to pay an extra £75 off my mortgage.

Also, I've been after a breadmaker for ages, but hubby has resisted. He thinks I'll only use it a couple of times, which is a fair comment. But this morning, I collected one courtesy of freecycle. So hubby can't complain!

    WooHoo
Thanks to all the lovely people on here I have managed to cut my hours down to 2 days a week, allowing me to spend more time with my gorgeous Children. :j

Hi Bellsbells, I am a new member in MSE forum, and I would like to set a target for myself. I currently have a mortgage of 65000 pounds, I aim to invest+save so that I can be mortgage free within 3 years.

First step is 20k less before April 2009!
    :)
