Ahem, as someone who was ridiculously excited by an unexpected quidco payment of 10p this morning I can't believe how I'd have reacted if £900 had been paid in. Bet I'd have given Meg Ryan a run for her money
:rotfl: :rotfl:But these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.0 -

Hello
Oooh, I feel like a newbie all over again.
Anyway, I recently cleared the last of our debts - we had £17k of debt when we got married in 1999, and have since taken out and paid off a £5k car loan....which comes to a rather scary £22k of debt.
Our mortgage is currently sitting at £32.5k, plus a secured loan of £5k, and I've got this vague idea that I'd like to get it below £30k in total this year, using a sharesave that matures in August and also by overpaying.
Not quite ready to sign up just yet, because I'm on maternity leave for another 6 days....lol....so I don't know what my earnings will be when I go back, but just wanted to tentatively stick my head round the door and say hello.
Congratulations and good luck to all those who are well underway with their mortgage clearing. :T
Hello Snaggles and welcome to the thread - I have added your name to the first post - although you might not be here in body yet you are here in spirit so you are part of the gang:rotfl: When you know what is going on more with your earnings you can give me more details

welcome savvy:j One of the things that I really like about this thread is that we have a huge range of goals for the year and a huge range of mortgages. No matter what the amount we owe or the amount we can manage to overpay each month we can all help each other out and get excited about how well we are all doing! No matter how much we are overpaying we are all doing the same thing - beating the system by paying off our mortgages ahead of what we 'should' be doing. Yay for us:T

In the absence of any overpaying anything yet this month I have been indulging in a bit of what was known in my school as "mental". Rather than use my quite small brain I have cheated with a calculator and worked out that every payment of £350 takes one week off my mortgage final date (this isn't an exact science of course but it is pretty sound). So thanks to this challenge, a bit of budgeting by me and a load of support from all of you I have knocked about five weeks off my mortgage already this year. I have also done my first lot of stoozing with an MBNA card via quidco....................three months ago that statement would have been absolute gobbledegook to me but now it makes perfect sense. Sadly I have even had a rush of excitement to find my interest has gone down £65 per month. I must remember that I do have to take the minimum payment into account.
Fingers crossed for an Egg card.0 -
Hi everyone,
Made overpayment of £100 towards my goal:j. Changed home insurance and made massive savings(saving was more to the £150 mark), but will pay £100 towards mortgage and the rest i`ll put away for a rainy day(or treat myself).Grocery Challenge 2013: July week 1 £90/£87.41

Hi oompah
Yeah, university is a big motivating factor here too - without overpayments, our mortgage will be paid off when it's time for my youngest to go. But as we had 4 kids in 6 years, I really want to be a bit more ahead of the game than that, and have some spare funds for the older ones too
Anyway, good news, as I thought I wasn't going to be able to pay off much this month, but the interest on our savings account was paid of course (and at the moment there's quite a bit in it as we've been building it up to have various bits of work done), so that has gone to the mortgage. Plus the savings I made from getting the gas and electricity DDs reduced, and some Amazon payments, and I've overpaid £185 already this month, so very pleasedAli - still pretty much a newbie, need to brush up my MS habits!0 -
