Hi bellsbells and all the other 2008 MFWs.
I have been reading around these boards for a while and thought I should finally take the plunge and join in. I have recently separated from my husband and now have a mortgage of around £127k to fund on my new property as well as half the mortgage on the former marital home. I am fortunate that we bought the house in 1988 and so the mortgage is at a fairly modest £45k. We are both paying £50 a week extra off the capital so I am already overpaying on that mortgage, but won't include that here.
I would like to start overpaying on my own mortgage and have been saving since the beginning of the year and have £450 to pay in on Monday. This was boosted by a win on the work's Grand National Sweepstake :T I think that my aim will be to overpay £1,500 by the end of the year. I am currently trying to juggle 0% credit cards that have funded the furnishing of my house and once all those are straight I hope to be able to pay off more, but that will not be till next year I imagine.
Looking forward to the journey with you all :jSave £12k in 2022 #54 reporting for duty0 -
Hubby won £138 on the Betfair Grand National thingy (Well I sorted it all out, in his name, and he picked the horses!) He said can have it - but I haven't decided on what to do with it. I could pay it off the mortgage, but I know hubby would like a new exhaust for his bike. Umm??0

My dream is to pay off the mortgage (£47K) before DS1 leaves high school - 3 years! He's planning on going to Uni so want the extra funds to help him out in case he has to move away to study. Currently on a deal where I can only overpay by £100 a month so am squirrelling everything extra away for when this deal expires in June, then will throw everything at it!
welcome oompah - let me know what you would like your total fot the first post to be!

Hi Bellsbells
I've been lurking around this site for the last two weeks and now feel ready to put my name down in black and white on your thread
My early plan is to overpay by £1500 this year but I should have a proper plan worked out soon so might adjust that (hopefully upwards) if that's alright with you.
Many thanks in anticipation

Got my Mortgage statement through on Saturday and the cheque I had sent for my March overpayment hasnt appeared on it. Looking in my current account that I keep specifically for mortgage overpayment money it hasn't cleared there either.
Looks like the cheque has been lost in the post. Grrrr or more likely someone at the bank hasn't processed it. So this morning I will have to cancel the cheque and re issue the March overpayment.
I have a little towards my April overpayment about £60 so far but I hope to make it up to £350 by the end of the month. But these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.0 -
