I also paid my mortgage, and last overpayment for 2008 today. At the start of the year I owed £21,870. Today I owe £13,500, although my target was to be at £13,000, I am claiming victory.
I was paying about £450, and set the mortgage up to pay £790, mainly to clear it by Dec-09. I over paid by £4050, while knocking off a total of £8280 from my balance.
I do not know why I did not start overpaying some years ago. Maybe because I didn't find this wonderful site earlier. Better late than never.
Stick in everyone, it can be done. :beer:Mortgage free

Hi Bells, I have PM'd you my December totals, so with the regular OP and my quidco for this month I have paid £372 in December, taking my total for the year to £3200 :rudolf:
most of this is in the ISA until I can make a lump sum OP in 2010 although I spose the saving grace to this is that I have now at least found out I can make a regular monthly OP and what I have put away in the ISA will be gaining some interest.
Thanks for running this thread, it has been a real motivation to me and I dont know what rubbish I would have spent the money on if I had not been OP'ing!!!
:xmassign:
See you in 2009!

I had not signed up for the 2008 thread, but have been following with much interest. I have made my December overpayment today and my total for 2008 was £4100 - I am very chuffed with this and hopefully we can do at least half of this next year, circumstances allowing. It was good to put some of my redundancy money towards the mortgage and see the amount reducing.MFIT T2 Challenge - No 46

Hmm. Don't think I'll get to £110000 by the end of the year. The work commission is taking a bit of a hammering at the moment, although the reduced interest rates are helping things along... I still think that my 2009 target of £100000 (or less) is possible though. Just need to have a frugal coming year!
I must say that even though the wages are reduced at the moment, at least I have a job!Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow0 -
Hi bells,
I've made my December overpayment of £550.
Also increased monthly mortgage payment from December by an additional £120 by reducing the term.
Received a letter from Nationwide today and the term remaining should be 22yrs and 7mths (based on the original 25 yr term), but it is currently 14yrs and 10mths.
Total for the year is £5050. :j
My target for 2008 was £5000.
My plan for 2009 is to reduce the mortgage by £10000.
I've also sent you a PM with my December totals.0 -
