NST May 2025: Film fun (+ financials)

okay, now I feel old, ancient monument old. Favourite films, I'm thinking Philadelphia Story, anything with Cary Grant, Spencer Tracy, Kathryn Hepburn, love Mrs Miniver, Went the Day Well (quite a lot of the 1960's war films) but struggled with anything newer. Blow Up, The Godfather (Part 2 is the best), The Lion in Winter (nearly everything with Peter O'Toole). I do like a romcom but it has to be intelligent and smart, not mushy. I did like Guardians of the Galaxy (only seen the first) but can't cope with there being a Spideyverse (DS3 and Beloved go out to the cinema a couple of times a year, usually to something comic book related, then try to tell me about it).
I'm a classic, not a monument.
Yesterday kept trying to be disastrous (only mildly) but took a turn for the better. I had an appointment but couldn't find my diary to check the time and haven't seen my phone charger for a few days so couldn't access the reminders they will have sent. I had 11.40 am in my head but then worried that that was for the blood test a couple of weeks ago. In the end I walked round the corner to the taxi cab office and went to the infirmary. I wasn't late and didn't have long to wait until my appointed time (10.30am).
It was my diabetes (+ pills, + mental health but we didn't do that) check up with the Practice Nurse and I've been dreading it. My eating habits are reasonably good and then I have spells when I just eat everything. However my blood tests were good, my blood sugar levels are only 3 points away from ideal so just one further tweak to my medication. I told her the doctor had changed it and I did 3 days before asking to have it changed back. She likes the 'old-fashioned' meds - they've worked well for years with few adverse symptoms but a lot of people want the newest shiniest pills.
My weight was another worry but I was happy with the figure on the scales. Not skipping about happy, but it's been higher and lower and for all my efforts over the past 6 years it's stayed within a narrow range. My body's changed mainly due to gravity (the beachball on sticks has slumped into a waterfall). I don't hate my body, I accept it. It isn't where I would like it to be and there are many steps back for every one painfully clawed forward but I will get there.
I bought a drink and sandwich from the stall by the door (I had a can to put in my bag but left it behind in my hurry) and went to wait for the bus. I had a number of things I wanted to do (GPO, Community shop or the onsite veg stall - I did find a pack of pens whilst looking for masks) but I was tired and in pain (too tired to walk back across the square to go in the pharmacy) so read my book until the bus came and got off near to home.
Ate, rested, fell asleep, read, ate a rm, slept.
Grateful for good blood sugar, blood pressure and weight results (not good but holding it's own). Down time.8 -
Oh I love a black and white film
When men wore hats
And the submarine that goes booip, booip, booip.... insert dramatic silence and homo-erotic looks.
I think film makers are frightened by silence now.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

NSD #1 for yesterday but caved and ordered some plants today. However, they cost far less than the £50 from YouGov that I cashed out the other day!Work today, OH did some housework and the dinner (pizza I had already made and he made a... salad to go with it), but still ...I need to do some watering outside once it cools down a bit, but that will be me done for today.5

It's been a sweltering day here and I have been stuck inside, but I was in a coolish room at a mere 24°!!!Wonder woman. Another film I love. Das Boot was amazing - okay, not a film, but sooo good. Muppet Christmas Carol is a must on Dec 24th.Today I am grateful for working this week, for having made the right decision re Pip, for cold water, for our neighbour saying she'll pay to replace the 2 fence panels her big dog half destroyed, for my book. What plans do you have for the bank holiday weekend?NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!5

Dear @apple_muncher can I please join, I have once again been absent, but am now working hard to refit my routines. Too much stuff going on and too much it all ends up creating waste and costing me. Time to focus on my health, my peoples and money. All is good, but it can be a little bit better :-) Hello everybody I hope you are well, will have a read and hope to post regularly in May.
I am currently grateful for a beautiful lake swim last night, the water was balmy, the sun sparkly and even though I wheezed the whole way through I did the whole 700m loop.Isa help to buy: 1000/3000 33%

Just updated my signature and realised I have a lot of stuff to be happy about.
- My tax misadventure eventually cleared and I have a clean slate w HMRC I believer (better check)
- The boys UC which I was very involved in - has found it's outcome and it is steep, but fair.
- Same boys PIP is extended for a year - so all good for now.
Same boy is now doing incredibly well living independently and studying for a masters. I am looking at what mayhem my life has been for a good while and thinking I have a bit of a clean slate at the moment.
Happy days.Isa help to buy: 1000/3000 33%

Saw this yesterday and only just found it again
Yesterday in Glastonbury there was a Medieval Fayre, an Anti Fascist rally, a free lunch, a very angry and confused ranter, a procession of horses and buggies, a coachload of very friendly visiting rugby players and pirates. Because there are always pirates
(Normal for Glastonbury)
Happy because there were an awful lot of pirate festivals and Morris Men everywhere as we came back to land, so glad there are still a few around.
On Friday I finally got to the GPO, paid the bill (grandma's house) and sent the letter to the IOM. Nipped in the £ emporium to get more ibuprofen (and sweets). Was going to get a reduced to a £ sandwich from Boots but they were shut (not just me, a middle aged couple were trying to get in, then looked around to see if there was a letter of explanation on the door or window. Came home, stuck a rm in the microwave and rested.
Mr and Mrs Builder have been here today, finishing off trim and putting in the remaining light fittings and socket covers. I've hung washing, set a second load off, put rubbish bags outside (2 from upstairs that I think are mostly recycling). Shelves, bathroom fittings and a rough corner to be smoothed on Monday.
Grateful for getting things done, lots of sleep, good drama.10 -
An iffy start to the month here.Had to have Friday off work as I've managed to sprain my back, I'm grateful I got a GP appointment and some pain meds. I'm having a lazy weekend to rest it ready for work on Monday.Called HMRC as their prediction for my income this year was about £20k too high. I'm hoping that will result in a small rebate next payday.Been a bit spendy as I bought a chicken run to use as a catio. This will allow me to have the back door open through summer without the worry of our indoor cats gallivanting!A big birthday coming up, middle son is 21 in a few days. That's all budgeted for and ready to go.Watched a couple of movies with youngest while resting my back, now I'm off to plan my food shop for tomorrow.8
