Apologies if I'm missing something, had you exchanged contracts and everyone agreed a different date prior to this?
The only date agreed was May 2nd. This was agreed with all 3 parties

If you haven’t exchanged contracts there is no compensation due. Although you could of course attempt to renegotiate the price, ask your seller to move into rented, or walk away from the purchase.

Different answer if you have exchanged, but it doesn’t sound like you have (your solicitor would have asked for express permission to exchange).

Yes I agree with that. I’d have to pay some legal fees if I do walk away. I could renegotiate the price or they could move to rented. I did look at renting however if they keep delaying the date it wouldn’t be cost effective.

As @user1977 has said OP needs to confirm with his solicitor whether or not they have exchanged contracts/concluded missives which we haven't had a clear answer on yet.

If, as I suspect, the answer is no then no date has been formally agreed upon and everything is still up for negotiation and any dates suggested so far are just that, suggestions

I heard via my broadband provider the person I’m buying house from wants to delay as she’s buying a new build and it’s not ready. Person buying my house agrees this date in May what happens? Is there any compensation? Could the sale fall through? Where do I stand as I moved all my providers over booked furniture and a van?
I don’t quite follow. You heard from your broadband provider? What does your solicitor say? A broadband provider may not be the most reliable of sources when it comes to house sales! And, as others have said, have you exchanged? You’ve switched providers and booked a removal firm which, if you haven’t exchanged, is incredibly risky.

You really do need to talk to your solicitor tomorrow morning to get some reliable information.

Thanks I tried to sort some broadband to
for moving in. But yes I agree I’ve been told the solicitor and agent never knew anything about this but seems strange the company wouldn’t connect me up for broadband so I suspect they are telling the truth. My hunch is to pull out if she doesn’t agree the 2nd date. I suspect any delay means I could get a higher redemption or legal fees from bank and hassle of moving everything. But yes I booked some stuff to deliver bit risky I guess.

No broadband company will connect you (and so disconnect the previous occupant) until you are the legal owner of the property. Until then you have no authority whatsoever to change utilities at the property. You should not have tried to do this until completion and the broadband company, quite rightly, won’t proceed with the say so of someone who does not own the property. Don’t read anything more into it than that.

I still don’t know if you’ve exchanged or not (I’m assuming not). But you need to get reliable, anccurate information, not rumour and hearsay. Talk to your solicitor.

    Good luck!

It seems really odd you would order broadband for a property you don't own yet. Probably extremely irritating for the current owner. I hope you've not tried switching gas/electric yet.

.....what else have you booked to be delivered to this house you don't own yet?

It doesn't sound like you know whether you have exchanged or not. Speak to your solicitor (or go through your emails from them) and if you don't understand they are telling you ask again until it all makes sense

There is no exchange and then completion process in Scotland.

Exchange is when solicitors  correspond to agree the terms of the sale including the entry date.

Once agreement is reached with both sides missives are concluded , finalising the sale.

Until missives are concluded either party can withdraw.

It's common practise to arrange a move with your broad band provider before you actually move. We're with Virgin and we told them a month before (in England). To be fair, they didn't start booking anything until completion date was confirmed, but they turned up a day after we moved to get it all installed.

OP, I think the lesson is not to book anything that costs money until you are 100% confirmed. Removal firms tend to be the biggest cost that you may well lose entirely.
