House chain delay

I heard via my broadband provider the person I’m buying house from wants to delay as she’s buying a new build and it’s not ready. Person buying my house agrees this date in May what happens? Is there any compensation? Could the sale fall through? Where do I stand as I moved all my providers over booked furniture and a van?

Have you exchanged contracts? If you have then any date agreed on exchange stands. If you haven't exchanged then completion date is a matter of negotiation and nothing is set in concrete until exchange.

My next door neighbour is selling and going into a new build. Her first date was mid November and she lost her buyer as the house was nowhere near ready. She then was given a date in Feb which came and went and she is now trying to cling on to her new buyer who want to move asap but she still does not have a date for the new build being ready and it looks like she will need to go into temp accommodation and store her furniture to prevent losing another buyer. I would not be moving providers or booking vans till exchange takes place.

Or concluded missives, as from previous threads I think the OP is in Scotland. But similar principles apply.

When a new build is involved and not yet completed many things can hold it up.  Would you be able to move into  rented accommodation so you do not loose your buyer?

If you have no idea what's going on, please speak to your solicitor.

Ask your solicitor or conveyancer where you stand

How have you moved providers when you don't have final readings from your current home and have yet to open accounts at your new place?

Yes I did ask they said they would look into it but sadly ended the day no further on as only found out at 4pm. I’m inclined to say that’s the only date I can move to be honest I originally set April as did that person was only people buying here who said early May

Apologies if I'm missing something, had you exchanged contracts and everyone agreed a different date prior to this?
