Welcome to the weekly Flylady Thread.
What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on
the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is
often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to
provide the support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker.
We also accept that, sometimes, life just gets on top of us and we can't keep
up, maybe because we're time-poor, not in the best of health and/or we have
littlies who need us. We are definitely NOT control freaks aiming for
perfection and utterly spotless show-homes.
You're more than welcome to join us in the everlasting battle against dust,
grime and gibble. The aim of our thread is to make those onerous tasks less
daunting, and to support each other - and to make time for the finer things in
life!
Please do remember we have to abide by MSE rules; each post should, ideally,
include some mention of flying.
Thank you Valli for last week's thread.
Please follow the forum rules on this thread as Flylady has been here a LONG
time and is a fabulous support and resource for lots of us. All posts should
have some Flylady-related content! (i.e. it should be on-topic)
The idea is that even if you are really busy you don't need to fall off the
wagon!
Every room comes back around next week so please don’t stress about catching up
These lists are only suggestions and not a must do list; you are more than
welcome to post and follow your own lists.
Also adding a declutter mission each day will help to gradually clear the
clutter and make flying easier.
A few of the basics before we start the week -
Hotspots are areas where if one thing gets put there, loads of
other things follow!
Daily routines are anything you need to do on a daily basis like
washing, swish and swipe kitchen and bathroom, ironing, making beds, vacuuming
high traffic areas, making meals etc.
Night-time routines are all things which make getting ready in the
morning easier, preparing clothes for the next day, making lunches, swish &
swipes of the kitchen and tidying the living room before you go to bed plus
personals like shower/brush teeth etc.
Fling Boogie - stick on some loud music, grab a bin bag and whiz
around the house finding items that can go out with the rubbish, recycling, for
charity shop, basically anything that will stop it cluttering your home.
Swish and swipe/S&S means have a quick wipe over an area such
as a sink or toilet to prevent the build up of dirt. This is usually done on a
daily basis
HHE/HHC/HHI Half Hour exercise/challenge/ironing ... run around for
30 minutes to the Benny
Hill music frantically cleaning exercising or ironing.. .other
music may be used if you prefer!
WM ~ Washing machine
TD ~ Tumble dryer
SC ~ Slowcooker
BM ~ Breadmaker
DW ~ Dishwasher
SOAADFA ~ Sit on 'bottom' and do 'nothing'
KH/XH/FW ~ Ex-husband and other not so polite versions
DH/DD/DS/DW/DP ~ Dear husband/daughter/son/wife/partner/whatever
OH/SO ~ Other half/significant other
NN ~ nice neighbour
Toxic (friend/mother/sister/whoever) ~ person in your life
that seems to exist to make your life miserable
AF ~ Aunt Flo 'time of the month'.. nothing to do with flying but
it comes up often.
ETA ~ Edited to add
Gibble ~ miscellaneous crap that appears forever homeless
Dot-to-dot ~ pick a small area (not a whole room) like a
chair/coffee/table/shelf/worktop or wherever- that’s your first 'dot' - totally
clear it - clean it - and only put back what should be there - deal with what
you have removed (not just move it somewhere else) then if you have time move
on and do the same to another 'dot' -the idea is just like a dot to dot puzzle,
you aim to join up all the dots and have a tidy room. The trick is to keep each
dot tidy until you get them all joined up! All credit to former Flylady AnW's
Mum for this one
RoD ~ Room of Doom, the one room that feels like it is a permanent
pit and cannot be used to its potential!
MAD half hour - Mad is the abbreviation for Make A
Difference.
The idea is that you have a Forth bridge (ie never-ending - or just huge) task
but that you work on it in half-hour bursts. This way you know you ARE
stopping, and that you won't get it finished but you will make a difference -
so it might be clearing out - the garage or shed, or clothes sorting, or
weeding - you get the picture - but rather than keep going until you've lost
the will to live you do half an hour...but, eventually those half hours will
get the job done!
Frog (or other amphibian) ~ google 'eat that frog'
Spoons ~ google 'but you don't look sick' and/or 'The Spoon
Theory'.
Mr S/A/T/M/L/Al - supermarkets Sainsburys, Asda, Tesco, Morrisons,
Lidl, Aldi. You get the picture!!

Thank you for the new thread, Natty x
We're going away for a short break this week, visiting family and friends, so I'm not sure how much flying I'll achieve, but the house is tidy and it shouldn't take long to flick a duster and run the hoover thingy round. All the photos and slides are boxed up and well out of the way of any sunshine. I sorted 2 boxes of slides yesterday and decluttered quite a lot, but there are still plenty more!
(((Hugs))) to all in need, and I hope everyone has a good week xxx7 -
nice gentle day. I have knitted, ironed, dried towels, put ironing away, and pottered. Am now a redhead again. I have s&s the bathroom. those last 2 items are not unconnected.
Toots list now 1 items shorter. Wooden trim reattached to wardrobe door. Sanded off old glue first…as a repair shop addict I have learned stuff!
Thankss for the new thread.

Thank you Honey Bear8 -
Morning all. Thanks for the list Natty.
Wordle in four even though I has four letters in the correct places on line two.
Today I am going to sensory and soft play but will try to fly before.
Have a great day everyone.Spend less now, work less later.7 -
Jazee, can we all come and play with you?
Wordle in 3, Spangram no hints, Connections no lives lost. Well, that was an easy start to the day! Just remind me never to buy or play the game in the blue line!!!
Rosie is still fast asleep. I have decluttered my meds and a cuppa whilst doing another little job off my admin list and am about to start FUPA the clean washing. DH has a nurse appointment at 11.15, and Rosie will go out with L for an hour around the same time, so I shall be left in peace to flick a duster and hoover, pack my bag and be ready to leave immediately after lunchIt remains to be seen whether DH will be ready at the same time, as he tends to pack everything bar the kitchen sink.
Hope you all have a good day xxx8 -
Good morning my lovelies xx
I'm up, made my bed, taken my meds, turned over the calendars, eaten breakfast, supped two brews, completed Wordle in four, and, so far, completed two lines on Connections with no lives lost - I left it to answer a text and I've just realised that I didn't go back to it....
To Do Today List
Finish Connections
Get dressed
Feed the birds
Put out the recycling
P & S calling for coffee
Give Easter eggs and card to P & S
Put fresh towels in bathroom
Wash towels and tea towels
Mr Al shop
Any ideas how to reach the last quarter inch of body lotion in a pump action container? I tried standing it upside down so that I could tip out the contents to use up, but they didn't move. Now I'm flummoxed.
Have a good week

Me again. You're all welcome to play! We spend too much time adulting.
Round - could you put a tiny bit of baby oil or similar in to loosen the lotion up a bit?
I have done dailies, walked Poppet, watered garden, hoovered through and shined kitchen sink. From today's list I have cleaned the cutlery drawer and filters on WM and run it through a cleaning cycle.
And that's it for today. Off out soon.Spend less now, work less later.7 -

Has anyone got any horse tranquillisers please? After everything this year has chucked at me I've now got to have a hysterectomy 😭
Had my gynae appointment on Thursday of last week and the consultant tried to insert a new coil, no go!!!! I had already gone to the ceiling during my biopsy scrape so he then decided hospital was the way to go. So I've got to have a scan, a camera thingy and then a hysterectomy. Depending on the results of everything this will decide whether full or partial.
Have been put on progesterone tablets instead of the coil, with my Oestragel gel pump to get me through menopause.
And the bad news is at 57 I'm having tom again, after 5 years of absolutely nothing. My consultant was convinced they had gone completely...lol
Still getting over this covid bout from Feb, am now just building up my strength again, my own Dr said it would probably be 6 to 12 weeks before I'm fully fit due to the severity of how the covid was. If I do anything too bad I'm flat on the sofa asleep..lol
So hence the horse tranquillisers...I mean seriously if I was a horse I would be shot by now...lol
In other news Dave is thriving since the move to Wales 18 mths ago. He's never looked healthier and his white cells are stabilised on the chemo he's on. He's out to a couple of clubs a week, volunteering at my sister's zoo once a week and out riding his bike once a week. Then it's chemo time and he's less able to do things for three days 😔
How is everyone else doing? I really feel I've missed major things etc on here.
Has piggers come back to the thread yet?
So sorry for unloading in this post...😕Mortgage Free as of 20.9.17Declutter challenge 2023, 2024 🏅 🏅⭐️⭐️

Great news about Dave's progress, Natty, but I'm very sorry to hear of all your troubles. I sincerely hope you can get sorted sooner rather than later - in the meantime you are exempt from all but very light flying and encouraged to take as many naps as you need to get through each day xx
I have done a quick tidy round and started my packing. DH has gone to get his leg dressed by the nurse, Rosie is out having fun with her pack, and I'm about to drag the Dy$0n upstairs so that I can come home to a clean house on Wednesday evening.
