Dia, agree with pip and others about the traipsing strangers🤣, I also thought this, personally I don't let anyone in my house who would dare have such thoughts and any income generating ones that you do have, well, their thoughts are paid for and in your bank lol4

DIA I have corrected the above for you! 😊doingitanyway said:
I am deliberating over a vintage armoire for my living space. I think it could work for storage, I saw one of the cottages I viewed with one and thought hmmm, I like that! …. It is quite lovely and has a central mirror that would reflect light, my plants could live on top of it and all my coats and clutter could go inside...but I mustn't think too long as it will go...
A good day for me. I hope it was a good day for you too
An armoire is a large freestanding cabinet with versatile storage for multipurpose use (TV, linens, dishes, desk).Sounds lovely, go for it! 😊❤️Mum 2018

Don't delay and buy the wardrobe before someone else nabs it! You know you'll regret it if you don't. It's your house and if you think it'll work well stuff what any visitors think.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)2

Hi Dia - we have a wardrobe that has transformed into a ‘pantry’ just off our kitchen. It used to live in a bedroom before we moved to current house that has built in bedroom storage.I love that wardrobe and couldn’t bear to give it up. It’s both pretty and very handy storage - so I think yours will serve you well.
no one has ever commented on me having a wardrobe in kitchen as far as I’m aware and like Penny says they can b*gga off if they do 🤣

I love alternative uses for things. It's artistic and imaginative.3

Another vote for doing what you like in your own home! If it's a lovely piece of furniture that will complement the room, provide you with useful storage, make you smile when you look at it, and reflect your individuality and personality, then go for it. There's no reason your home has to look like the ikea/cotswold/insert brand of choice catalogue.
I have an ancient chest of drawers in my dining room. No one has asked me yet why I have a chest of drawers in the dining room. Or commented on the ink stain that has been polished into it, or the clear marks from where it was at some point cut in two to make it easier to transport/fit somewhere... And it's none of their business. I love it
(I keep the fly screens for the double doors in it, as well as candles, place mats, and napkins). 4 -
Thanks @Tresinia511 very funny!

Thanks @Sun_Addict I went back first things I am learning
Thanks @SuzeQStan interesting to hear of your alternative wardrobe use
Thanks @jaybee! Me too
Thanks @greenbee what you say is true. Sometimes I lack confidence in my own tastes. I don't know why as people always complement me the way I do my home. I like the sound of your chest of drawers and in fact in my old home I had a chest of drawers in my own living space...
Thanks @Skint_yet_Again now I know I am looking for an armoire!
Thank you all, you have all helped. I went to the shop first thing. The armoire is still there and I still like it. On inspection it had rather a lot of woodworm activity. It looked historic. I called an antiquey friend and showed her pics. She said leave it is better safe than sorry and my floors are all wood. So I haven't bought it...But now I know I want one...I know...- where it will go
- how I will style it
- I can have my home however I want it! it is my business!

In other news I walked to Lidlees to pick up some really nice wine Laceria (Garnacha -Syrah) from a region in Spain I love. It is 7.99 and so nice. I've been invited out this evening so I will take a bottle
So, a long walk, a catch up with a friend and sitting on the seafront with a coffee (undrinkable. I'm stopping coffee out in future, it so rarely how I want it to be...going for teas and nice waters in 2026)
A good day so far. I hope your day has gone well so far too

I keep a tin of woodworm treatment in stock... anything that comes into the house gets cleaned and then doused in it
Wood worm moves slowly, and prefers damp to dry - but clearly if there is too much then it isn't worth the risk (particularly as it can impact on the stability/durability of the object itself). Hopefully the perfect item will appear now that you know what you're after.

You are probably right and that is my thought too, but my home is damper than I would like it to be...it isn't worth the risk and I am sure to see another.
