I also have received no emails from them. First I knew was when I saw this thread just over a week ago. Have opened a new Internet Saver(2) account and tranferred the money over with no problems.

When opening new accounts, do any other existing B&B savings account holders keep their old ones open with the minimum balance? I did this previously in case of rate reductions to new accounts and not to an old one where I had an additional bonus rate. It also helps defer the interest payment until the normal July date (maybe good for some and bad for others) but of course you miss out on interest on your interest.

Interested (no pun intended) to hear what others do?
  • I originally opened my B&B account in early November. I don't know what the interest rate was at the time but I know it was 'attractive' enough to put my savings into it. Can someone remind me what it was, was it 6.40% and for a set period and should there have been a notification of it dropping? Reading of that drop in that interest rate here in MSE I have since opened the new 6.40% and transferred out of the 6.15% Internet Saver Account into the higher rate Internet Saver Account (2). But I am confused, have I got to keep watching MSE & the B&B website to ensure I don’t get ‘caught out?

I am so annoyed. I wanted to open the 6.8% eBond for a while but was so busy that I didn't get round to it until now - when the rate has dropped to 6.5%. Came on here to check eBonds only to discover that my Internet Saver 1 rate has dropped too! Now I need to open a new account, transfer the money over and close the old one. Sounds like fun. Anyone know what the best eBond interest rate out there is at the mo?
    Reclaimed thanks to this site:
£175 Abbey Mortgage Repayment Fee, £170.03 Capital One Bank Charges £418.07 Lloyds TSB Bank Charges, £2,671.55 Mis-sold Endowment Policy, all for OH

I'm really disappointed with B&B. I've only recently had to close my e-saver account and open an internet saver account because they wouldn't increase the rate on the e-saver. Now they are at it again reducing internet saver(1) by 0.25%, whilst launching internet saver(2) at the same rate as the old account (6.4%). So much extra administration. Another direct debit etc etc. And it doesn't say much for how they treat their loyal customers hoping they won't notice a better paying account. They haven't even informed me of the rate reductions, yet they were quick to let me know when the rate went up.

    Hmmmm!!

Yes it is a bit of extra work. But just for info you do not need a new DD the existing one carries on working with any new accounts you set up.

  • Can anyone tell me if B&B advised savers at the time of opening the 6.40% account that it was for a 'limited' period. I know I should, but I don't keep a note of these rates, or even when the BoE last reduced the rate. At least with ING I knew that the offer to old customers was for three months only, and they did have the grace to advise me in December that it was coming to an end on the 31st.
