Went out for lunch with OH who had come up to London since it was his day off. Lovely, relatively cheap, and very filling lunch at Hummus Bros - and best of all it came out of the eating out fund so £0 spent from my lunch money. Tomorrow will be tuna on toast again so apart from the £15 odd pounds I spent stocking up on stuff, it's been a NSW. Won't need more stocks apart from bread (approx. £1) for another week and will only need juice and bread after that.

Gosh, am going to have to be very inspired - thats 35p a day

Spent another £1.76 today on bread and soup packets. Must remember to stop by Asda where they are doing Buy 2 for £1.50 on soup packets. Not much of a saving but something anyway. Also Asda often has cheap bread. Am doing a lot of travelling round the country this month and have to cut costs somehow.

    Hi All,

I haven't posted as I have been on holiday for a week so no lunch spends for me :j I'm also off work this coming week as DS starts nursery so I will be home for lunches again.:j

I took DS to Chessington WoA today and went into Cafe Nero for a coffee and juice for DS. It was £3.10, gave the girl £5 and she gave me £6.90 change :T wayhay :rotfl:

    Hi All,

    Where is everyone?

Well I completely lost count in Sept and I know I spent a bit on a few sandwiches from Mr. T's etc so I'm going to put it down as £15 and start off Oct afresh.

    Good morning everyone

It was a lovely surprise to see this thread still going strong. I was one of the original members of the challenge at the beginning of the year.

I was so evangelical about every single thing I bough/didn't buy/eat/didn't eat, it was an amazing tool to break the sandwich shop cycle.

I now, as a matter of course, bring lunch from home. If, like last Monday I slept in and had to spend almost a FIVER in a sandwich shop (am a greedy lunch logger :o ), that certainly cured me of cutting corners with my brown-bagging.

    Good luck to you all.

  • Can I join the challenge? I can be really good most days but it's those days when I slip and I end up paying a fortune. Plan on spending at the most £20 to the end of the year.

    Hi Briggsy and welcome

£20 to the end of the year is more than doable. I normally average about £12 a month but that's because I often buy a loaf and filling at the beginning of the week and total that up. I'm too disorganised to make sandwiches to bring in but I do bring in fruit and yoghurts which count from my grocery challenge money :D

Thanks for popping back Fletch and letting us know how you are getting on. I have found it really useful too (although I fell off the wagon last month) :rotfl: But I'm quite pleased with £50 over 4 months as I would easily spend £3-£5 a day before so I have saved a fortune :T

  • Naomim thanks for the welcome :j . It's nice to feel to comfortable.

I'm usually really good but it's those days when I'm out and about all day that I forget to take lunch and end up buying something. Even one sandwich can add up. So now I'm determinded to spend nothing at all. Having this threat will give me the incentive.

Hello everybody! I was part of this challenge at the beginning of the year but have fallen off the wagon a little bit between then and now. I'm no longer a DFW but I certainly don't want to spending everything I'm earning every month so I've joined the NSD Challenge and would like to re-join here too. Today is pasta from home made with some very strong smoked garlic sauce I got in a farm shop over the weekend, hee hee! Off to put this in my sig...
