  • So if you bring food from home ie Lidls ready made soup, a slice of bread and a banana that doesn't count, but if I went to Sainsburies to buy my soup, roll and banana in the morning before I get to work that does count?

I tend not to leave work to buy lunch during my break as I only get 45mins, and sometimes i get free school meals!

I want to start this challenge on April 1st. New to this money saving game but very willing to learn! How bad is this, I couldnt tell you how much I earn in a year....

    Hellooooo lunch loggers!!!!

Sorry for my absense last week, as if anyone would care! I was very busy at work for a change and was a bit naughty on the lunch buying front... haven't reported in since the wednesday before good friday!! I can't remember how bad i've been, but think it was quite bad and will try harder from now on.......

Today i have a ham n cheese sandwich (of course, for toastie-ing!), a yog, apple and banana....

We definately should share lunch ideas, i am in need of inspiration! cheese/carrot and mayo - hmmmmmn not sure about that one jo, let me know how it is!?
I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....

Hi everyone - I've been very very bad over the past couple of weeks but am determined to start making my lunches again, starting this week. It definitely saves me money and I feel better cooking everything myself so I know what's in it. So, today I have HM Lentil soup; fruit for dessert.
  • Hi

Quick question - does food you buy as part of your weekly shop then take to work count?

I take lidls ready made soup, slice of bread and a banana. Otherwise on way to work id buy the equivilant in sainsburies (and prob other goodies too).

Lunch ideas - Seedy bagels (bogof 95p for 8) with humous and red peppers. Avacado with prawns (lidls do cheap lil pots) & lemon and pepper dressing. I'm addicted to pesto (tesco value!) on cheese with baby spinach leaves sarnies/bagels.

Am being thick and not worked out signature yet.

I don't include anything which comes from home despite it being bought especially for lunch, i include that in my household food budget (well i would, if i had one!!)

I only count lunch spends if its a "buy it on the day cause not organised" type affair.

Others are stricter with themselves, i thinkit's horses for courses as long as you are consistent with yourself.... see my posts below!

I haven't got anything with me today for lunch but i am going to go to Somerfield to get some essentials for home, and will sneak in a tin of soup or something grocery-like, so i can say it came out of the grocery budget not a lunch spend.... cheating, moi?

If, and i say if, i come back with a ready made sandwich then i will fess up and include it as a spendle! Do not want to do this as aiming for a NSW!

Ahem, would a chicken caesar sandwich, plain crisps and some grapes constitute a major wagon falling off?? £4.20

there appeared to be nothing at all to make up a nice work lunch in the whole of the little somerfields! honest! Well, okay, maybe i didn't look very hard... but they put the samdwiches by the door and ..... well y'know..... SORRY!!

As you can see I'm not very good at it!!

    Morning!

LittleMissMessy - to change your signature go to USER CP (at the top in green) and click the change sig box on the left :) I don't consider my Lidl etc purchases towards lunch as bad, but do consider my 'popping to M&S for a chicken and sweetcorn' sandwhich spends as something I need to declare!!!

Yesterday: Leftover prawn balti and courgette / yoghurt (!) (No spend)
Today: noodles, veg, yoghurt from home (No spend)

Your lunches sound lush Miss Messy. I'd never think of doing anything except pasta n pesto.... keep the suggestions coming!!!

I'm having a cheese n ham toastie again!!! so fed up of them, altho when i actually have them i quite like them! does that make sense!?

Anyhhoo, a no spend day which is the main thing! 2 out of 2 this week!

Hullo all...have been ill so haven't reported in for a while. Good to see everyone's getting back on the wagon after a wobble at the end of the month!

I'm sorely tempted to wobble today despite just polishing off my HM tuna curry. I want some seeds or nuts! But I will be good and just add some dried fruit to the Asda shop that's to be delivered on Friday.
    Hi

Quick question - does food you buy as part of your weekly shop then take to work count?

I only count stuff I buy on the day due to lack of planning. Anything I bring from home comes out of the grocery budget - I've noticed that cooking extra and bringing leftovers for lunch puts less pressure on me to make sandwiches etc in the morning. And it's turning out cheaper too. In March I spent about £4 buying stuff at work (as opposed to £60+ I used to spend) and my grocery spend was still LESS than the previous month. Go figure!

  • Youse are all very impressive!

As for pesto, you'd be amazed what you can do with it! I buy tesco value red and green pesto and use it for stuffed chicken breasts, on baked fish, as a sauce with rice, in sarnies......bit obsessed!
