Is it to do with American Chase credit cards? E.g., high fees or some other issue. That looks like a tourist spot.

If it was a fee based issue, then Amex would surely be the first obvious exclusion? The UK fees are fairly tame but internationally Amex generally charges the highest (or thereabouts) among mainstream payment acceptance symbols in all the markets they're present.

I'm thinking this is some problem with the lack of card number. Perhaps they have some kind of system where they cross check last 4 digits of card... nothing quite scans but they all sound more plausible than being to do with fees, IMHO.

I discovered a couple of weeks ago that I can't draw cash out on my Chase debit card from the local Post office.

All other debit cards I've got seem OK - Virgin, Santander, TSB.

I think that is to be expected.  Chase are not listed here:

You can't pay cash into your Chase account at the Post Office, either.  When it comes to cheques, you can't pay them into your Chase account at all, not even by sending them to Chase; you'd have to use a different bank altogether.

If the reason is historical fraud I can't imagine they will share the details. If Chase was more fraud prone than other cards I'd expect to see more merchants hesitant about accepting.  I have not heard of any other places.

I wondered about the virtual card number in the app (which is different from the invisible physical card number - see Returns and Collections) causing problems, but can't see why that would cause issues.  And it's not really that different from Apple and Google pay using different card details is it?

They do take Amex which will give me more cashback in any case!
I would hazard a guess that it's something along those lines, it can't be much else. Unless, perhaps their machines were just not updated to accept the Chase BIN ranges (and it became a load of hassle with people ringing up asking why their card wasn't working etc).

There's also a thread on the Monzo forum about certain airlines specifically calling out Monzo cards as not being accepted, along with the other suspects such as Amex etc.

The latter I expect due to the fact that traditionally there is a separate merchant agreement required, costs can be higher etc for Amex.

Trying to book afternoon tea here and spotted this:
Please note, we do not accept chase cards for deposits or payment on the day.
That seems very unusual to me.  Has anyone seen anything like this?  Anyone care to speculate why?

Where does it say it? Can't see it anywhere and putting a Chase number into the booking system doesn't trigger any messages either.

They use SevenRooms for the bookings and from the best of my knowledge SR takes the payment made at booking. In the venue they will use their own card machine obviously so having the same rules across two companies taking payments would be odd.

Ha!  They have removed the text since earlier today.   You can still see it on Google search:

I can't see how they can stop you paying with a Chase card. Just tap it when they bring the card reader to the table
