Afternoon all,
Another glorious day here🌻 really lifts the mood.
I have a few more spends to declare £4.59 at Aldi for seasonings and hula hoops and £3.29 at Asda for a cauliflower and a box of ice-creams.
I was exactly the same yesterday @Mrs_Cheshire nearly £10 for 3 ice creams !! The kids were just as happy with the milk chocolate ones l brought them at £2.10 for 3.
It reminds that the ice cream van will be parked outside the school. I used to take a small cool bag with an ice block and cornetto type ice creams brought from the supermarket on a Friday. Kids were happy and it saved money and time waiting in the long queues.

That is such a smart idea @carboot_karaoke! Your kids may have that as a really wonderful memory as well after they've grown up too.7 -
Afternoon all. We’ve just returned from a much more expensive than originally intended trip to Lidl. 😬 £69.16 spent on cauliflower, asparagus, parsley, salad, tomato paste, Brazil nuts, eggs, carrots, ginger, chicken leg quarters and thighs, a 1.5kg gammon, a chunk of Polish smoked ham for slicing, oatcakes, toothpaste, dishwasher salt and rinse aid, milk, butter, yoghurt, and loads of various sausages, sliced meats, cheeses and jarred sugo sauce from Lidl’s Italian week that I wasn’t able to get last week. A lot of this is going in the freezer or pantry stocks.
The gammon and Polish smoked ham alone cost £14. The Italian sausages costs another £14. So yeah, I would have come under £40 if I didn’t stock up. Mr. Jings also bought a fern plant but I didn’t count that toward the GC. I’ll count the dishwasher salt and rinse aid toward the bulk fund though — £3.34.
After Lidl we stopped in M & S for some basics. £12.15 for bananas, clementines, berries, YS beef sausages, yoghurt, baked beans, and mustard.
£195.09 / £350 spent. £154.91 total remaining.
£30.81 of bulk funds left.
I’ll head to Savers on Tuesday to get more hand soap and trash bags. I have a SpecSavers appointment so will swing by after my eye appointment. Hopefully I can keep my hands to myself otherwise. Later on Saturday, I’ll likely walk to Tesco for incidentals like toilet paper and refilling the fruit. I’m avoiding making a Tesco order because it may tip us over. Some meal planning is definitely in order this week.

I have done the porridge with apple, African peanut stew and the potatoes. The shepherdless pie mix is in the slow cooker on high still right now and should be done by 4pm when the cheap electricity ends.Doom_and_Gloom said:I'll hopefully be able to do a bulk cook this Sunday during the cheap time. I plan to do the following; Porridge with apple, African peanut stew with tofu, quinoa, shepherdless pie mix and boiled potatoes (left just boiled so they can be used as is, mashed, roasted or to put together a shepherdless pie with the mix). I didn't do a batch cook during cheap time yesterday as I knew the delivery would take up most of the free space in the fridge we had.
The quinoa I binned before cooking though as I found insects in with it. Not great. I do have some edamame fettuccine that I need to use up sooner rather than later. Takes a quick 3 minutes to cook so I will use that instead and cook it up when it is needed.

Another lovely sunny day, albeit with a cold wind in this neck of the woods. The first March spends were £6 in Aldi on bread, milk and coffee, then £16 in Lidl which included salmon, battered fish and wine. They did not have any of the apples that I like so £2 was spent at the market on Saturday. (They are Royal Gala and huge).Grocery challenge 2025: £650/1500 annual budget6

‘Ello all. There are a couple of spends to declare on my end. £5.08 at M & S this morning on bananas and a big block of extra mature cheddar. Then £2.79 at Savers for trash bags and hand soap. I forgot to buy matches when I was in there. I’ll get some later this weekend or next week.
I’m thinking of roasting some cauliflower, peppers, potatoes and onions tonight to have as a base for meals during the week. We can start off with some roasted vegetable quesadillas for dinner to use up some dry tortillas that have been knocking about.
£202.96 / £350 spent. £147.04 total remaining.
£30.81 of bulk funds left.
