Economy 10 timings and move to smart metering (Merged)

Either I'm losing my mind or this discussion is wobbling all over the place. I gave an admittedly rather technical explanation of the tariff somewhere else, but it's proving elusive. Basically - yes, it's a genuine tariff, but the factor you've ignored is RTS. Your DNO (SSEN?) will be sending little commands to the heating meter to turn it on and off when it feels like it, but with some minimum guaranteed number of hours a day and only within the hours specified. That's what RTS does. There's no question of your NSH being active continuously from lunchtime on Saturday to Monday morning.simfrend said:

That all changes, of course, when the whole system is replaced by a single really smart meter. The confusion may be because the other meter is configured for a two-rate tariff, e.g. Economy 7 or 10. That should give you a cheaper rate for everything you use in its offpeak hours. Since Octopus are only quoting two rates, I'd guess that usage recorded on the Heating meter and on the other meter's offpeak register is all charged at the lower rate, while usage on the peak register is charged at the higher rate. Your comparison of readings and charges from recent bills should make this clear. The fact that no readings seem to have been submitted for a very long time doesn't help, so perhaps it's not so clear after all.
I'd still like to see the same sort of data sheet as you shared elsewhere (?) for the non-RTS non-Heating meter just to be sure. Octopus seem to be just as confused as you and I are: the two tariff panels you quoted somewhere show the same MSN for two different MPANs, which of course is an impossible situation. What is the MSN (serial number) of the non-RTS non-Heating meter? Does that figure anywhere in your bills or readings pages?

That needs to be fixed because you’re wasting electricity. Ask your landlord nicely. Or get it done yourself, the savings will soon pay for it.1

Thanks Gerry, will do.2

I see our replies crossed in the post. Seeing as all entries bar mine on this page all have the same time-stamp, is there any chance that chronological order has been maintained in this new thread?System said:This discussion was created from comments split from: Economy 10 electricity - Price Comparison.I'm not being lazy ...

As promised here is the other data page showing peak and off-peak details...i.e.not the heat rate.

Hi, I think its probably all my fault...Sorry! Still getting to grips with how the forum functions.Ildhund said:

So...you appear to be saying that the timings which have been provided are the possible times within which the RTS meter may switch on the heater circuit (That's what I had thought at one point but Octopus have insisted that the actual timings are those that they have provided).Ildhund said:

If I have understood you correctly and that is actually what happens, then there should be a separate list of times when the peak, off peak and heat rates are actually applied by the meter? And Octopus should have provided these actual timings to us?
There is only one meter with two MPANS -

I think it has - like merging two piles of playing cards in numerical order, two threads have been merged which is why the replies don't quite make sense in the order they are; it's two different conversion interspersed together.Ildhund said:
