It might be worth asking your GP to refer you to a dietician as you have health issues which would be on the NHS and thus free of charge to you.  An alternative may be to undertake the pre diabetes course which anyone can refer themselves to (or again you GP) which includes nutrition.

I went to a homeopath about a persistent patch of scaly skin under my nostril, over 30 years ago and she put me on an exclusion diet to get interacting foodstuffs to all calm down. I did it for 12 weeks and then started to gradually reintroduce things to see if I reacted. For me, the interaction between yeast, sugar, caffeine and flour improvers in wheat products were the killers. To this day, I try to eat no more than 2. At Christmas it all goes to pot but cutting out sugar and starchy carbs sorts it out in a week. Way ahead of her time, she was talking about gut biome and yeast growths

  • Thanks @joedenise, I've asked before for specific advice re my condition but apparently I can't have any support until the organ is fully failing, all they suggest is more tablets, which seems ridiculous - surely prevention (or in my case delaying) would be better than addressing when it's too late. Unfortunately my BMI isn't quite at the range needed for weight loss associated assistance.

@Suffolk_lass wow she seemed really knowledgeable! Glad you got the information you needed and you know how to address.

  • Quick update re health... I've managed to do some research, with the help of ChatGPT who suggested some relevant reading material. Through reading up what I should be eating, and what I should be avoiding, how much water I should be drinking, recommended exercise amount etc, I have devised a plan. I'm on day 3 and feeling a little brighter than I have recently though it's still early days.  I'm eating far less processed food and eaten more fruit and veg than I have in a long while. I've reduced portion sizes too (no side of homemade chips with our fajitas last night, I opted for a side salad instead). The only thing I haven't master yet is drinking water...I'm still nursing the same 2l bottle of water I started with yesterday morning so need to focus on that today. I've also exercised both days so far (static bike and weights on Monday, and a hours walk yesterday to pick up some groceries).

I had some blood work done on Friday of last week so I have a benchmark of where I have started, and I weighed myself on Monday morning. I weigh daily and then take an average of the 7 days as weight can fluctuate so much over the week.

    Today's top 3 priorities:
2l water, 1 coffee, 1 cup of tea
Recovery day exercise: stretch, meditation and housework (sweeping and mopping floors included)
Stand up every hour to stretch (my WFH desk is broken so no longer rises up to stand to work...must take a look at that)

Financially...all is good, budget is up to day, Xmas shopping is all but done. Quiet weekend ahead which is needed.

If you're struggling to drink the water it might be worth adding some no sugar squash to it to make it more palatable!  I find it easier to drink that than plain water and it all helps with your fluid intake - it doesn't have to be plain water any fluid is better than none.
  • That's a good point @joedenise, I used to love orange SF squash as a kid :)

Remember also that if you are eating more fruit and veg there will be water in there, so that might help

Evening, what a busy couple of weeks - lurgy hit the household, we’ve been busy taking part in extra activities (both fun and volunteering), I attended an awards event and was recognised for my work earlier in the year, and we’ve had the annual Christmas party too.

Finances are looking good, all budgets on track, managed to get the car part repaired via the extended warranty we purchased when we bought the car, which has saved over £450, and my car insurance has come in at £270, which is £130 under budget! All in all the good has outweighed the not so good in the last few weeks.

Just this week to work and then leave begins, one last push!

Hoping to catch up on diaries asap but thought I’d check in whilst I had two mins, and I’d done the budget (this afternoon).

Hope you’re all good and well :)

Apart from the lurgy that sounds like a pretty good few weeks. Well done on the recognition!
