Thank you all. I said I’d like the trainers I had tried on and then just carried on the conversation by asking. I think I said something because I did believe they were faulty (they were actioned as a manufacturers fault), or I don’t think I’d have said anything at all.

The trainers I have chosen don’t have a hard back on them, more in line with what I usually wear so fingers crossed all should be good now :)

Busy day today of pumpkin carving, Halloween films and trick or treating 😀

I need to do the budget as I haven’t looked for a few days but all should be good as we’ve had a quietish week.

Had a reminder about the car payment (it’s all I’ve thought about this year), not sure whether to pay off as soon as the interest hits, or wait until the date it is officially due in November… I know I’m being impatient.

Have a great day, everyone x

You absolutely KNOW the thrill of the interest hitting has to happen before the payment goes B) . And in with the elation of it being done? will be that determination to re-accumulate a similar amount of savings, now you are on that journey.

Personally, I need to make myself feel a little bit stressed about money, removing money as soon as it arrives to stop me spending, and setting ambitious targets, to live well within sensible budgets and keep paying down or into the next thing. I think you have a mortgage, but if you have any other debts, like CC balances, they go first (or are earmarked to go before interest hits) - then hit that mortgage. Do a crude calculation of the interest you pay per month and you will instantly be motivated to pay it down/off early.

Take a look at the MFW (mortgage free wannabee) area of the forum and get yourself on one of the annual challenges to overpay. Personally, I stayed on debt free wannabee with my diary because it is a lovely friendly, free from judgement space, but some put new diaries over there (and would get the flag emojee thing in their profile (I didn't get that or the roll of honour, as I stayed here) when they finish).

Oh, and does your location do the pumpkin in the window means I am joining in with Halloween? We used to so the children only knock on those doors

  • @Suffolk_lass, absolutely what I was thinking. I have a date in November that I think I will make the payment, earlier than the agreed final payment date and then I can cancel the direct debit so they don't attempt to take any extra monies on the date that the direct debit was due each month.

You are doing so well with your money, your diary advises you know when and what is arriving and when etc, it's such a good position to be in when that is the case. You're an inspiration :)

We already overpay the mortgage by £200 a month, and each time the fixed rate is up we also put £10,000 into it (from a credit union we put into each month over the duration of the fixed term, straight from wages so we don't see it), so I think we will be able to reduce the term further this time. I really want to start investing the money we have been paying to the car payment each month so need to do some research into stocks and shares ISAs. The aim is to have the mortgage paid off in 15 years max, and a largish sum saved in 20 years from investments. I did consider joining the MFW diaries but I think I'll stop here (if that's allowed) but also peruse the MFW diaries for hints, tips and to congratulate those achieving what I will achieve one day :)

Yes, we only go to houses that we know are participating, we would never ring at a door that is in darkness. We tend to stick to our little road, and visit family and friends who live in the nearby streets, plus any houses in between that are lit up and look like they are in the spirit of things. I've done a little sweet bag for each of the children on the street, there's only a few so wasn't very costly but will make them smile (my DS is one of the oldest on the street and they all look up to him so will be nice that he can give them a treat when they knock at our door).

It can be magical. When our son first started senior school he was in a small group of 4. They all came to us, that first half term and they did apple bobbing, eating a toffee apple on a string and putting a hand in the mystery cupboard for a trick or treat (shoebox with a cloth stuck around a hole in the lid and wrapped or painted black with stars, 😆 they all got a treat (pencils, little books, that sort of thing. They loved it. With a sausage in a bun and no ketchup portion control (who knew?) - it was utter carnage but great fun.

They were lovely kids at that point. Still innocent, but not from our son's junior school as he was the only one from there. One cheerfully told me about some criminal activity their parent had been involved in. We moved the following year. I don't know how they turned out but I hope they were OK. It just stayed with me that that sort of little gathering was totally new to them. Never had events set up at someone's home where they could make a bit of mess and let loose.
