Finapojke said: So that is fraud, even in banking terms. The top-up payment is just a clever way of getting you to fall into the trap. Of course I've checked spam and junk, and of course I've taken it up with them! I just wanted to point out to others that they are not fulfilling the very T&Cs you mention = fraud
I get you are upset about this, but other than asking the co for your money back. You have no claim via the bank. Although you can ask bank to block further payments.
Just do not think that stopping you card used will stop any further payments. As both Visa & Mastercard have a updater system that allows retailer to request new card details. All part of the card providers agreement 👍Life in the slow lane2 -
Just hope company don't come back with your details, or you will be redebited. As bank will be claiming the money from the retailer 👍Life in the slow lane0

Under the Visa/Mastercard regulations there is no claim. Bank claiming fraud is a very dangerous game. Card providers do not take kindly to spurious claims.
Banks saying that the retailer is :
deeming this company's activity to be fraudulent
Banks are not there to police or judge retailers. That is for the card providers.Life in the slow lane1 -
So I bought a gift card from these guys on friday night and also missed that £49 thing, for me though, I never even received my code which was supposed to be emailed "within minutes" and nothing. So I started googling their site and found this, I totally missed that £49 part as well. It's definitely a shady business.
Anyway 3 days later and despite messaging them like 3 times over the weekend asking where the code was, I get a message today of them complaining that "we can't send you the code because you cancelled", the thing is that was for a birthday present, I wanted it now, not in 3 days time, despite them taking the money immediately (£8), so yeah as far as I'm concerned this is absolutely a scam, its also comical that they get back to me on monday morning regarding this whole thing. Absolutely avoid this site.1 -
Why is it comical that they did not get back to you till Monday?
Not everyone works weekends, & they maybe running on limited staff...🤷♀️

Yeah the scammers have to have some me time around the pool with the money they're taking from people lol
In seriousness, usually these "code sites" are automated and will email you the code once the payment has gone through, these guys hold the money until that renewal hits instead.0 -

Absolutely avoid this site.Nothing shady about this business nor is it a scam. The fact their opening hours are Monday-Friday 9am-5pm is probably why you didn't get a reply until this morning when you emailed Friday night. It's also very clear on their website that it's subscription based.1 -
It absolutely is a scam when they took my money and didn't send me a code when it was supposed to be immediate. They slipped up though because had they sent the code when they were supposed to, I wouldn't have thought anymore of it and not seen this thread and the whole £49 thing. But anyway keep defending them.0

No one's defending them, but people are too quick to chuck the word "scam" around, often when what they're criticising doesn't meet the description. Them not sending a code when it was meant to arrive immediately is nothing more than an administrative error or incompetence. If you have evidence that it is a systematic ploy to deprive people, you should report it.
As people often advise on here, gift cards are not a good concept. Whatever miniscule saving you might get by using a gift card is almost certainly not worth diminishing your consumer rights for.
