  • To the OP, I see some reviews where people have managed to get a refund. You should contact and see if you are able to get one .. maybe the site does not want to get totally blocked in the UK!

At every point in the purchase process there is mention of "Subscription" If people do not understand what that means, then sadly they need to stop shopping online.

    That's not true.
    No mention of subscription here-

A mention of subscription here but no details on cost

Finally at the very bottom, the subscription cost in the tiniest text size compared to the text on the whole website.

A consumer is paying for the product which is the gift card. The seller has put a subscription add-on through a tiny t&c. It's not a recurring gift card purchase but a subscription add-on which is a completely different product.

I was looking at trustpilot reviews and I can see that people have claimed amount being deducted even after they reached out for cancellation, but that's something completely different.

I'll just link to this page, which is the purchase page for a vodafone voucher

Not hidden at bottom of page. You actively have to tick T/C which advise Subscription

  • I was just pointing out that your comment - 'At every point in the purchase process there is mention of "Subscription"' was not true and I shared the first screenshot where there was no mention of subscription. Anyway, I think I get your point that buyer needs to read all t&c. Have a good day 👍

If people took a little more time with what website they are using and took time to read things, this board would be a lot quieter.
And less people would shout 'scam' when - imho - it isn't.
  • I respect your opinion but beg to differ.

scam : a fraudulent or deceptive act or operation

Subscription traps use deceptive UX patterns.

    https://www.itv.com/news/2024-03-08/unacceptable-subscription-traps-costing-consumers-688m-per-year

"while 24% thought they were making a one-off purchase" - this is the case for OP and for the large number of people who have left a 1* review on Trustpilot.

The government has also recognised this and is looking to act on it.

    https://www.gov.uk/government/news/new-measures-unveiled-to-crack-down-on-subscription-traps

Anyway, that's all from me. Hope OP gets back his money or at least has learnt a new way on how subscription traps operate.

These guys caught me out too.  I'm usually so scam aware.  I'll admit a mistake but this was slicker than it appears.  Regardless of user error or not doing due diligence, the people running this site are scammers.  I'll be phoning the bank tomorrow.

    Update;

I got a refund. I kept pressuring them to prove to me that a £49 per month subscription is a fair prices for services rendered and and requested them to give a detailed breakdown of costs in relation to benefit. They tripped up in an email too. But keep at it and you will get your money back as they know full well the game they’re playing isn’t legitimate despite what some users on this forum say.

    Hello *************

We have refunded the amount of GBP 49. The reimbursement should appear on your bank account within 2-5 working days.

This refund constitutes a common agreement that ends the litigation, not continues afterward.

Thank you very much for your comprehension, and if you need anything else, please feel free to contact us.

They did say "The terms were outlined during the sign-up process and in the T&Cs".
