    Just noticed you said you offered £15 and it then added the BPF to your offer. As we understood it the BPF would be deducted from your bid amount and the seller offered a lower amount.

    Actually, this is my bad. The seller sent me an offer of £16.32 which is inclusive of Buyer Fees. Given that Buyer Fees were listed on my order details at £1.10 that means the £0.22 VAT was in fact inclusive of the offer I received and that the buyer sent an offer of £15.

    For example, I have an item I sent an offer for £15 and got accepted by seller. On order page it says under item price "£16.10 incl. £1.10 for Buyer Protection." Then on Total breakdown it also adds Postage, which was £3.39 and VAT at £0.22.

    That all seems messed up. I'm a business seller and don't buy that much on Ebay so I'm not seeing any of this. It isn't impossible that Ebay are doing something wrong within the new system. They seem to have made it needlessly complicated from what I'm seeing.
    When you make an offer do you see that the buyer protection is separate? IE do you know if you offer £15 that you'll be paying £16.10?
    Can you also clarify that the total you paid was £19.71?

    Hey! Yes, the order total was £19.71. But as I mentioned above, prior to your post, it was in fact the seller who sent me the offer not myself, so that was wrong on my part.

    I just bought another item earlier, it was an offer sent from a private seller to myself. Before accepting the offer the price breakdown reads £19.44 for item, £1.44 incl. for Buyer Protection, Postage £2.70 for a Total of £22.14. But then after payment when going to order details it reads £19.20 for item, £1.20 for Buyer Protection, £2.25 postage and VAT at £0.69. It's just even more messy when buying multiple items, they could have kept it simple.

    I got an email this week about Simple Delivery.
    Last paragraph was
    “Simple Delivery will automatically apply to all new eligible listings from private sellers in the relevant categories. Your existing listings will not be affected.”
    Whilst it did mention earlier that sellers could opt out is this the actual start of SD being the default option.

    Yes I had a couple of books on sale starting at 99p, now says £1.75. Must admit can’t work the maths out!  But I think it’s the end of low price items being sold on EBay, presumably that’s what they want.
    For offers the following applies where x is the item price in pounds and pence and y is the required offer price

    y = 1.04 * (x +  0.75)

    This may help to make sure you get the offer price you want.
    I'm not sure where your maths is coming from. I think you mean y= (1.04 * x) + 0.75

    However 99p * 1.04 = £1.03 then +75p =£1.78 which I think is what RedImp was expecting.

    Your formula would be;
    Y = 1.04 *(0.99 + 0.75)
    1.04 * 1.74 = 1.81

    As you are adding 4% to the fixed element of the fee.

    Even if ebay are rounding down the offer price should be £1.77 not £1.75
    Yes was exactly what I was thinking
    ok so if  y= (1.04 * x) + 0.75 where  y is the required offer price and  x is the item price in pounds and pence let see how it work with this actual order:

    Subtotal
    £8.92
    Buyer Protection fee
    £1.08
    Postage
    £3.25

    Order total
    £13.25

    Here we can see the final item price was 8.92

    I am expecting the required offer price to be 8.92 + 1.08 =10

    We also know x is 8.92

    1.04 * 8.92 + 0.75 =10.0268

    This may work with your example but is 2 pence out here

    Here is another example looking at the listing price (not orders)

    I have listed one item at £1

    Back end = £1
    Front end = £1.76

    No order with the break down yet but I can see without the use of a calculator that the variable rate on £1 at 4% should be 4pence.

    However only 1 pence has been added which is 1% not 4%.

    It looks to me as if the variable rate is itself variable.

    100%.

    I think someone in finance has come up with this great plan and IT have just tried to implement as best they can rather than pushing back and saying no.

    Listing an item yesterday Simple Delivery was the default option, and custom postage was hidden by a help message explaining the benefits of Simple Delivery which meant it was easy to scroll past it without seeing it.

    I am glad that eBay haven’t dragged their feet on this and are rolling out into new categories very promptly. Some categories are absolutely full of business sellers using private accounts, so this is welcome news for business sellers, as although we are still not on a level playing field, we do have a little more parity in the fees department. Whilst private accounts are looking to bundle more items in one lot to save on fees, I am looking more to sell individual items as the fees are more comparable to sell cheaper items/lots v’s a private account.
