what i really don't understand is if eBay are doing something that is a little shady legally.
So if I send something out with a 2nd Class Large stamp, which is exactly as I have done for the last god knows how many years. EBay then withhold me receiving payment for a considerable amount of days, even if I get great feedback from the buyer. EBay also charge a fee for buyer protection. So my payment is either withheld until they’re satisfied that everything is ok or if there is a problem they give the buyer their money back and I as the seller get nothing. If that’s the case what’s the protection fee for? Sounds like double dipping on risk to me.
If you get positive feedback that triggers payment
No, It is only delivery confirmation via eBay's tracking system that triggers payment.

And for collection only items, payment is only triggered once a buyer either confirms delivery by clicking the "confirm delivery" tab in their eBay or if the seller enters a six digit code that they *MUST* get from their buyer *BEFORE* releasing the sold item to them otherwise it is a LONG 14 to 30 days wait for auto payment via eBay if the buyer remains quiet and does not open any cases.

Horrible system now :( and the main reason why I now have totally given up on selling on eBay after 18 great years and 720+ sales as a long term private seller since joining eBay since 2004 with over 6,600 positive feedback and no negatives or neutrals for all that time.  Makes me so sad now how they have RUINED everything for every private seller with such destructive and uncalled for changes which will affect eBay in the long run as more and more private sellers leave eBay who were also BUYERS.  :(
As You're not using ebay you may find yourself a little out of date. Feedback triggers the release of funds on Single-quantity, single-item orders priced £25 or less. There are a few other tweaks and clarifications as well, and now that SD is in force I am finding my funds released very quickly, well within a week in most cases (not on my LLs as I don't use SD for them)

Getting paid for items you've sold | eBay

I'm glad you popped back in as I was hoping you would update us on your ebid journey, I know we could check but it would be good to hear how you are finding it. I've seen quite a lot of other people mention ebid, but many of whom have returned to ebay feeling they wasted their money on membership and warning others about not being too hasty in paying for anything much up front. This board shouldn't just be about ebay, although they are of course the main player, and it's good to see people's experience of other sites like ebid or Vinted.

I`m a bit mystified as I'm not experiencing any problems with the postage.  I can select advanced options and list the postage as I did before.
Like everyone else, I don`t like waiting for payment but everything else is ok.

I also haven't faced any issues yet. I didn't even know other people had them. Sorry about that. And I hope eBay will pay more attention to its customers' convenience.

Ebid's been very quiet lately with only 2 sales this month.

Vinted is booming though - I buy stuff off there and I'm seeing stuff like Adidas tops & hoodies selling like hot cakes after just a couple of hours of being listed...

I wish those guys at Vinted would broaden their Horizons and give more  scope other than just clothes and electrical's - Vintage antique stuff would fly off Vinted and leave eBay for dead if Vinted extended their categories to allow more articles to be sold on there...

I don't sell on eBay anymore. Super slow payments and dictated delivery was the end of eBay for me.

However, I do still buy stuff from eBay (only just !) - Their new bladed item rule which now extends to just about anything that has (or takes a blade) is ludicrous. I am 48, don't have a credit card and will never get one due to not being in full time employment, I always used to buy a lot of my band saw blades for my metal cutting band saws (I have 3 of these machines located in different places of my workshop)... I now get a big red banner at the top of the eBay checkout page blocking me  from purchasing any bladed item (or saw parts as I wanted to buy a 2 speed ac motor that came from a scroll saw and was getting the same red bladed item banner when trying to pay for it)

Whist I fully understand that there are now stricter laws in place to cut down on the amount of blade crime, It seems that eBay have not refined it well and it is now blocking sales on harmless items, some which do not even have or include a blade !, like a saw with no saw blade or an electric motor that came from a saw, or even a tile saw !

This is not good !  :(

I have to agree with you here, I have hopes that Vinted will allow more categories going forward and also allow proper business selling rather than the half hearted pro seller scheme they run at the moment. For that though they would need to comply with Uk regs about returns , rather than the shoddy system they have at the moment that says if a buyer gets something damaged or incorrect then buyer pays to return.

Considering what I am allowed to sell on Vinted privately, I am doing very very well there. On a private comparison, ignoring my business sales, I think I do as well on Vinted as on eBay despite being very limited what I can sell. I’m surprised though that you like Vinted with the long wait for money that is longer in many cases than eBay.

However having said that, my private eBay sales have been extremely good for the past few weeks, all my buyers though are opting to use Evri for parcels, I’ve only had one use RM, so I think the price reduction in postage has really helped. I am actively looking for things to sell from my storage areas , including some larger collections of Nick nacks that I’ve had in boxes that I realise have been packed away for over 20 years so I can hardly argue they are treasures I needed to keep . I can barely list them fast enough.

As for ebid, usually when it is discussed on here I give it another go for a while, but whilst my sales on eBay and Vinted are so strong I haven’t had a chance. The many negative comments I’m seeing about ebid on various forums, and even on their own chat board sales suggests that little has changed. Perhaps when things slow up a bit I may list some of my business stock there and see if I get any sales at all.

Incidentally out of interest for others reading this, did you take out any form of ebid membership or are you using the PAYG model?

Yes, As you know I am not a fan of slow payment, Why would I be when I was so used to PayPal's instant payments !

The attitude of Vinted is if you buy it and don't like it or it's not right, then sell it on via Vinted !

Sometimes returns are costly, time consuming and scammers abuse them for their own gain...

On eBay, even as a private seller with no returns accepted, eBay now still forces returns by saying "unless not as described" - Anyone can lie and say it's not as described and force a refund when that wasn't 100% true and they are simply abusing the returns policy to buy an expensive item like a Smart Phone and  then claim not as described and return back a bar of chocolate !! - completely scamming an honest seller who did everything right, but eBay left an open loophole for scammers to take advantage.

Back to eBid, I think eBid lacks visibility and fame - I think the more and more private sellers that flea eBay and migrate to eBid, the better sales will be on that site, as these sellers are also buyers and most are curious to see what other people on there are selling and if they see something they want, they may be tempted to buy it !...

I really don't like the attitude of eBay lately and their simple delivery is the last straw as I will NEVER post anything by EVRi - Their service is 90% slow and unreliable.

If I can't use Royal Mail Special Delivery or other reliable  couriers like DPD and Parcel Force then I'll forget selling on eBay altogether !

Apart from excluded items, which eBay have yet to fully clarify , the only options under SD are RM48 or Evri, unless buyer (not seller) chooses an enhanced service, although that process  isn’t entirely explained by eBay either. However, eBay have said they take all the risks and sellers are not liable for late deliveries or damage- so I’m not that bothered. I’ve always wrapped and packed well anyway, nothing changed for me.

As for ebid, it doesn’t appear their model is to make money by hosting listings , their money is made via selling memberships. They have been  in the UK longer than ebayUK and are making very little inroad.  Frankly Vinted looks a lot more promising especially if, as above, they would set up properly to allow business sales. At least Vinted are making serious inroads into the market

Etsy seems to have a decent market in antique stuff. It's hard to gauge what sells there and it isn't my area at all so not sure how useful it is.
