If ebay get too greedy there is nothing to stop people completing  their sale outside of ebay.
If you use eBay then you know that is near impossible now.
Where there is a will there is a way.

    Certainly not impossible.

  • Same case, selling CDs, movies and games, mostly 1.99 to 2.99. I have removed(not deleted yet) all my listings and from now on, because a lot of business sellers were gloating about the changes, I am not going to buy from them. Amazon for same price delivers next day, and even parcels from China arrive in less than a week for much lower price. Even if ebay decide to return to previous state, business sellers are no more for me. Ebay was supposed to be mostly preowned items once. It's like someone try

The only positive I can think of is the flat fee is a one time fee so it might encourage buyers to bid on more than one item.

Not as i understand it. The fee is charged per item, not per transaction (as fvf used to be). So the only way to reduce it on low value items is to produce a bundle listing.

    Just checked, definitely per item even if paid simultaneously;

"The Buyer Protection fee is calculated as:
    • A flat fee of up to £0.75 per item, and
    • 4% of the item price up to £300, and
    • 2% of any portion of the item price from £300 to £4,000

Any portion of the item price over £4,000 won't incur any additional fee."

I've been selling off my large private CD collection for the past couple of years. I had no problem with the previous seller fees, and the last 3 months have been a bonus. However, now I can't advertise my prices to compete with the business sellers out there as I have over 50% added to some of my cheaper items, so I am basically a dead duck in the water! Of course, I am in the minority and the business sellers will be all rubbing their hands together. No room for the private guys any more. Anyone fancy setting up a new eBay, along the lines of the original one?!
But you didn’t have a problem when business accounts couldn’t compete with you for the last few months, as business sellers subsidised the private sellers having no fees to pay.

    What does this mean then?

If multiple identical items are purchased in the same order, the fixed portion of the fee of up to £0.75 is only charged once.

What do you think about this being applied to UK private sellers only? Do you think that is fair?

Just made one sale today. Was listed for £10.

Someone made me  offer for 8.92.

Looking at the final invoice I can see "buyer protection" came in at 1.08. So they must have put a bid in at 10 and then I receive an offer of 8.92.

To call this buyer protection is as best misleading. As a seller I don't object to paying a final value fee to list a item, just like business sellers do. However, what I don't want to do is set up a business for selling an array of one of personal items.

for ebay to  try and mug you off and tell you there are no seller fees is simply misleading, very confusing and ultimately a lie.

I see a different scenario and would suggest that buyer saw the extra charge and put in an offer so they still paid £10. That would fit in with all the eBay blurb about how this works.
