I saw this the other day. It's pretty sad and really made me think.

I have reason to believe it was the hike in NMW (I earnt just above it) plus the lowering of the amount that employers start paying NI at that led to me losing my job last year (1week before it was due to kick in).
When Id heard these changes announced in the budget in Autumn 2024, my first thought was 'thats going to cost jobs'. If I can realise that without having a basic maths qualification to my name, no idea why the people running the country cant!
Anyway what were the changes made by your workplace in 2025 when NMW changed as this year theyve reduced what constitites full time hours.

i agree, it has definitely cost lots of jobs across the country. I imagine you were right in thinking that was the cause of you losing your job also unfortunately.
The company i work for reduced hours last year for some people according to reports i have read and also put some part time staff onto zero hour contracts. I hopefully won't be employed by them for the next round of changes in minimum wage or other budget cuts as i can see them making more cost cutting changes when it happens.

🤦🏼♂️ So today the 2 managers said there WILL now be a job in the 39.5 hour role as they think someone may be leaving/not there much longer and they wanted me to take the job and asked if i was interested? I kind of wanted to say No, you have messed me about too much i will stay where i am until i find another job with a different employer. But i said i will go away and think about it.
They also said that they havent spoke to the regional manager about it yet, so really things could all change again after they have spoken to him anyway. It's like Eastenders working at the company i work for i tell you.I would ideally like to find another job at another company, but it can sometimes take me months to find something that is right for me, that i know i am capable of, will enjoy, isnt stressful and i can see myself doing long term. i don't want to just take any old job just to get out of the job i am in at the moment, as discussed previously. So do i switch to this other job in the meantime to take the extra couple of hours a week and £110 per month (before tax) until i find another job, not knowing whether it is worth it or not, or do i just stay where i am now knowing what im doing and that its stress free and easy enough but less money? Plus i don't even know if the job offer is definitely an option yet or not until the regional manager approves it and the other employee leaves (IF this even happens or not) 🤷🏼♂️
